I left the Map Chamber with rage in each step, making my way up to the Great Hall for breakfast.
I told Sebastian in the Undercroft that I planned on speaking to the Keepers after everything he told me. He was right about the missing pages being about the cure but, it's going to be difficult to tell him about their whereabouts. Who knows if the pages even exist anymore.
I walked into the Great Hall, spotting the boys at the far-left table. I made my way over towards them and sat down next to Ominis, Sebastian sitting across from him. Since we all agreed on working together to help Anne, I had to start being willing to speak with Sebastian.
As I sat down, I could feel all eyes on me. Everyone knew about Sebastian and mine's distance from each other. But now since we're attempting to close the gap, everyone wanted to witness it. It was almost as if everyone felt the tension between Sebastian and I finally speaking again.
I'm still annoyed that Sebastian tricked me with Polyjuice the other night. I told Ominis everything that happened in the Undercroft, and he was furious. He knew Sebastian wanted to talk to me that night but didn't know he would go to that extent.
I laid my head face down on the table groaning, wrapping my arms around my head.
"Good morning, Eliza, something troubling you?" Ominis asked politely. I told neither of them that I was going to speak with the Keepers before breakfast.
"You have no idea." My sarcastic response was muffled with my head still enclosed by my arms. I was still annoyed with what just happened.
Ominis tapped my arm, "What's on your mind?"
I sat my head up and found Sebastian's dark brown eyes on me. His hair was a little out of place, looking like he just woke up just before breakfast. He was wearing a white collared shirt with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His green tie was poorly done around his neck. Ominis on the other hand, was always presentable. His clothes were never wrinkled and no hair out of place.
His eyes turned into a worried look; they shifted from my eyes to right underneath them. He must have noticed the dark circles.
"Trouble sleeping?" Sebastian asked, his voice groggy from just waking up.
I didn't sleep well last night. To be honest I haven't slept well at all this school year.
"Partially, but I finally spoke to the Keepers this morning." Sebastian's eyes widened at my response.
"Tell us, what did they say?" Sebastian's response was desperate. It's been several days since the Undercroft, so I understand why.
"Well, after the Keepers denied my accusation and I blatantly lost my mind, they finally confessed. About the missing pages Sebastian, you were right."
"Merlin, I knew it!"
"And where might be their whereabouts, Eliza?" Ominis asked.
Yikes.
"Um, well you see—about that."
"Merlin Eliza, what do you mean 'about that'? Sebastian's leaned in closer to the table, intently listening to what I was about to say. Eager to know more.
I sighed, "Rookwood has no idea about where they might be. He said when he last saw the journal the pages were still intact, protected by ancient magic. Only a Rookwood could find the journal's hiding spot."
Sebastian's head fell into both palms of his hands with his elbows leaning on top of the table. He scoffed and said a few swears underneath his breath.
"It gets worse, the Keepers also obliviated the cure from their memories to protect it even more.
