I woke up to the smell of freshly brewed tea and something else sweet that filled my nose. I finally opened my eyes but remained still in the small bed, scanning the room. Ominis sat at the round table by the fireplace, closing his eyes as he sipped his tea, taking in its goodness.
The other powerful sweet aroma that filled the room directed my eyes towards the kitchen. I found Sebastian working away at the stove top. He wore long black pants and a wool dark grey jumper with a single stripe of dark green across his chest. He had his sleeves rolled up to his elbows as he worked.
I sat up and got out of bed, curious to see what Sebastian was doing. His back was turned to me as I watched him jerk his arms upward, sending a flying disc up in the air. The floor below me creaked which made Sebastian turn around, "Ah, good morning darling, breakfast is almost ready." Sebastian moved away from where he once was to put his pan in the sink, revealing the massive stack of pancakes.
I grinned to myself and let Sebastian continue his work while I sat down next to Ominis, "Good morning Eliza, sleep well?"
"I slept alright; I think I had too much soup last night." No, not at all. The nightmares never seem to cease, "How about you Ominis?"
"Just fine thank you, I hope Sebastian wasn't too loud this morning. His clutter in the kitchen put an abrupt halt to my—"
"Not my fault you're a light sleeper mate." Sebastian walked over with two plates, setting them in front of Ominis and I. Sebastian gave us both a stack of pancakes, the only difference being that mine had raspberries piled right on top.
"Eat, good fuel for our little quest today." Sebastian winked and sat down at the table with his own plate.
"Yes Sebastian, pancakes are most certainly a nutritious meal to fuel one for the day." Ominis sarcastically spat out. But he couldn't complain too much as he was already pouring a large amount of syrup onto his stack.
"That's what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Sebastian closed his eyes and raised one finger with his statement, then shoving a large bite into his mouth.
We were all enjoying each other's company when an owl flew straight through the kitchen window, landing right in front of Sebastian, "An owl? Who knows we're here?" I was concerned, if the school staff knew we snuck out, I can't imagine the heap of trouble we'd be in.
Sebastian took the parchment from the owl as it flew away. He put the letter between him and I to read, as he spoke aloud for Ominis.
Sebastian,
I am stopping by in Feldcroft later this afternoon.
It's about Anne, better to tell you in person,
John.
Sebastian re-read the piece of parchment over, and over again, "What does he mean 'better to tell you in person'? Eliza, we need to leave for Rookwood Castle now. We are getting that cure and saving my sister."
Sebastian got up from the table and started to walk towards the curtain to change. Before he pulled the curtain back, he spoke again, "Ominis I'm sorry mate but I need you to stay here in case John arrives before we get back."
Ominis pursed his lips together, "Of course Sebastian, anything if it involves Anne." I know Ominis wanted to go with us today, but Anne controlled a part of his heart that was too big to ignore.
Sebastian gave a quick nod and went to change. During our fifth year, Sebastian and I had these so called "quest" outfits. It was something besides our school uniforms that we weren't afraid to get dirty. It also made it a lot easier to run around in.
