Chaos ensued as soon as Madam Kogawa released the quaffle.
Natty successfully managed to reach the quaffle first. Not only was she our captain, but she was a chaser as well.
Natty zoomed on the field, avoiding the opposing players, and passing the quaffle back and forth between our teammates.
With the help of our keeper sending a bludger to block the Slytherin chaser from reaching Natty, she threw the quaffle into one of the scoring hoops.
Lucan spoke with the sound of the scoring bell, "Natty Onai scores! Ten points for Gryffindor!"
I flew by Natty, and we both exchanged a high five.
With Slytherin now in possession of the quaffle, I flew to their chaser and bumped my right shoulder into theirs, causing the quaffle to drop.
With the quaffle falling, one of my team's chasers flew as fast as they could to retrieve it. Only to be stopped by a bludger taking out the end of their broom. Causing Imelda to take possession.
I looked across the field to see that it was Sebastian who sent the bludger. I huffed and started to pinpoint my tiny golden object.
I heard the familiar sound of a bell and Lucan spoke, "Imelda Reyes scores! Ten points to Slytherin!"
Sebastian looked at me with a sly smile, shrugging his shoulders in a guilty way.
I've never been that mad about the other team scoring a goal. But because Sebastian was involved? I'm pissed.
Continuing my search for the golden snitch, the Slytherin beater from last year flew by, making a remark about our last encounter, "You better watch where you're flying Bennet, what a shame it would be if I put you in the hospital wing again." He flew away maniacally laughing.
A Slytherin chaser had possession of the quaffle again, weaving in between players. Keeping the ball to themselves hoping to score. The chaser shot the quaffle only to be blocked by Garreth's broom. He looked at the chaser and stuck his tongue out.
Time passed as I continued to fly around the field, keeping a sharp eye out for the snitch. The game was now tied 30-30.
"Ouch! That must have hurt! The Slytherin seeker's broom hit by a bludger, causing them to spiral down to the field!"
Lucan's newest announcement ignited a spark in me. Slytherin's seeker was temporarily grounded and waiting for a new broom, and I had the snitch all to myself.
I must have flown around every tower till I found the small object of gold across the field. I leaned forward for extra speed, dodging a bludger along the way, and flew to the object of victory.
From my peripheral vision, a blob of green followed close behind. I ignored the trailing player until I couldn't no more. Or shall I say, didn't have a choice.
"Ah hello Bennet, nice to see you flying up here. Enjoying the view?" Sebastian spoke sarcastically, now flying right behind me.
"I think my view would be better Sallow if you weren't in it!" Sebastian now flew directly next to me.
He laughed, "Ahhh you're feisty today, I think I might like you better acting like this."
My blood started to boil beneath the surface of my skin.
"Bugger off Sallow!" I tried to avoid him by maneuvering my broom into a complete nosedive, following the snitch.
As I continued to trail the snitch, Sebastian continued to follow me.
"Bugger off and miss out on this fun? Come now Bennet, who do you think I am?
"I think you're insufferable! That's what I think you are!"
Sebastian and I were now shoulder to shoulder, diving down to the field. My eyes still focused on the snitch.
I quickly glanced over at him. The tips of his hair wet from sweat. Cheeks glowing red from his increased heart rate. His eyes still a deep chocolate brown.
"How perceptive, thank you!" His response was smug.
Sebastian now flew ahead of me, flying directly in my path and abruptly stopping. Causing me to rapidly jerk my broom up to avoid a collision.
I lost sight of the snitch, frantically searching to where it now flew off too. Sebastian now flew up behind me, inches away whispering in my ear.
"Can't let you show me up on my first game back darling."
No, no, no, no.
My heart dropped. I looked ahead to see the Slytherin seeker.
With my golden snitch firmly in their grasp.
Sebastian intentionally distracted me while his seeker retrieved a new broom, allowing them extra time to get to the snitch first.
Lucan spoke dreadful words, "Sebastian Sallow manages to distract Gryffindor's Seeker Eliza Bennet. Allowing Slytherin's seeker to gain possession of the golden snitch, Slytherin Wins!"
Sebastian left my side without saying another word and joined his team. Giving everyone a high five, the whole team cheering.
My jaw hung open; I haven't moved from my spot since Sebastian left. I can't believe of the the embarrassing trap I just fell into.
_______
After the game, I immediately stormed off to my dorm. I planned on entering and never wanting to leave.
I threw myself onto my bed face down. My body exhausted from the game and my mind exhausted from my thoughts.
A few hours have passed, still not leaving my bed. Knowing that it should be Gryffindor throwing a victory party in their common room right now and not Slytherin.
I heard a knock on the door, "Eliza, are you still in here?"
Natty.
I looked and propped myself up. Natty came in with a soft smile and a plate full of food. Someone must have told her that I skipped dinner, unwilling to show my face in public.
"Eliza, please don't beat yourself up over what happened in the game. We have plenty of more matches this season and another against Slytherin."
"Natty I was made a fool! Everyone knows that Sebastian and I have history and with us currently not speaking, it was a total embarrassment!"
"Yes, what Sebastian did was sneaky, but I know you well Eliza. I have no doubt that you won't put him back in his place without any problems. Chin up my friend and eat."
Natty rubbed my back and left me alone in my dorm.
Fig now made an appearance flying through the nearest window, landing on his perch.
Begging that this wasn't an owl from any Slytherin or other student about today's match, I ripped open the envelope and read.
Eliza,
I am disgusted with Sebastian's behavior today, especially during the quidditch match.
Meet me in the Undercroft to discuss his behavior, I'm already here.
