Chapter 95 - Emaciated (Hallucination)
Peggy didn't sleep very well that night, hardly at all actually. She ended up sleeping on...someone when in the trucks. It was a miracle she managed to, with the noise of the engines. She slept on George Luz. Yes. That's right.
But then she woke with a start and clutched at her rifle, ready to fight.
"That's right, you stupid Kraut bastards, that's right. Say hello to Ford and general fucking motors. You stupid fascist pigs. Look at you, you have horses. What were you thinking?"
Garcia made him sit down.
"I was thinking about how nice it was to be asleep," she grumbled. And Luz rubbed her arm.
"Dragging our asses halfway around the world, interrupting our lives," before anyone could do anything, he was up and shouting again, "for what? You ignorant servile scum, what the fuck are we doing here? Huh?"
As they continued on to Landsburg, Peggy realised she'd never had the chance to ask Lewis how he was doing. And then she felt selfish. She'd been so focused on herself, she forgot about her troubled friend.
Soon she settled down again, and dozed once more. Only to start at gun shots.
Just some Nazis being executed.
Oh.
Okay.
O'Keefe looked spooked, and Lieb was smirking at him. So Peggy attempted to kick Lieb to stop him. It ended in her flailing her sleeping leg about.
"What the fuck're you doing?! Princess you're gonna kick someone the way you're going."
"That's the point you twat. Leave O'Keefe alone."
The look of incredulity on his face made her exasperated.
"I didn't say anything!"
"It doesn't matter, stop being a twat."
He grumbled about her being a grouch when tired but she didn't have the energy to retort. She really was exhausted. So she napped some more, and when they stopped she was gently shaken awake by Luz. Peggy felt better. Not quite refreshed, as she was a bit stiff, but definitely getting there.
And she definitely perked up when squads were being sent out on patrol.
Finally! She was going on a patrol! Now, they'd probably wouldn't find anything but Peggy didn't care. She was excited. Everyone teased her about it, especially Bull and Luz. But she literally didn't care!
The woods were eerily quiet. It was like they were in another world with how quiet it was. All noise was deadened.
Peggy was having a grand ol' time despite this, just excited to be out and about. Maybe she was a bit too excited...
O'Keefe looked to be the exact opposite, wound so tight that he'd start firing the moment someone so much as stepped on a stick.
"O'Keef-?"
"Sarge."
Peggy couldn't help but turn to look at him, the speed at which he'd answered made her jump.
"Why the hell you so jumpy, boy?"
"I'm not jumpy. I'm fine."
Yeah, no one believed him. It was clear as day that he was tense. But Peggy was starting to get a little on edge. It was very quiet. No birds.
"Shit, I can hear your heart poundin' in Arkansas, boy."
"Jesus Christ, give the kid a break, Bull."
She agreed with Christenson, O'Keefe had been getting too much shit lately. It wasn't fair.
