Over a year since she had last walked the gravel path to home in heeled pumps and still she had not learned.

Heeled shoes were a stupid idea.

She felt every single stone, and trying very hard not to wobble too much.

They were a terrible idea.

A sound made her stop.

Peggy couldn't yet see her house, as she hadn't reached the top of the hill that made up over half the journey home. But that sound.

That was not something she'd heard in a long time.

Lowing cows.

The farm had cows again!

For a little while she stopped and she listened and let the cows low and the birds sing. These were the sounds that reminded her of better times. Of when the word home meant the farm, and only the farm.

But her lengthening shadow urged her on.

It was early September, so the evening sun was not very strong. Even with it at her back a little shiver wriggled its way down her spine, as her shadow stretched further still in front of her.

By the end of her walk, her feet were sore, as her shoes were not the most protecting, and, well, heels.

And so, there she stood, outside her own front door again. Hesitant to go in. Again.

After a deep breath, and then another, she knocked.

And it is done, for now. I will post the sequel in due time, but for now I want to take the time to try and finish many of my other WIPs. In the meantime, check out All I Want on AO3. It's another WW2 fic, by me, that's a part of the SAS: Rogue Heroes Fandom. Filming for S2 of SAS: RH has just finished and I'm very excited for it. If you've not seen it, go check it out on BBC iPlayer or MGM+, or perhaps read Ben McIntyre's book of the same name, on which the series is based. For now, I bid you adieu xx
