Chapter 107 - Monster

Peggy had nearly drowned herself last night, both in her bath and in lemon liqueur.

She'd deliberately not said high when she talked of coming down. Because it wasn't a high per se but it had felt good. She'd enjoyed last night and it made her sick to think about.

She'd enjoyed torturing someone.

Well yeah.

The rush of power from last night was...enticing. She wanted it again. She wanted the power of being so wholly in control no one said anything because no matter what they did, she was in control and couldn't be stopped. It was so good to hurt someone, to make them feel just an ounce of all her pain.

And there was no way she would let anyone get off scot-free after almost taking a member of her family from her.

No, there would be no sympathy or going easy.

Peggy woke in the late morning in a cold bath and so hungover she thought she was on death's door.

As her head throbbed with every movement, she was slow to get out of the bath, and even slower to drain it. She was cold, but she made no move get a towel and just stood looking out her window. No one could see her, and even if they could she wasn't in the head space to think about the consequences. No. Her head was too full and busy, and Genesis was crowing for attention and it was all too much.

Oh fuck. What had she done?

What would Gene think when he found out? Would any of her family ever look at her again. Would Bill take back everything he'd said when he found out? He couldn't still love her.

None of them would.

Not after finally seeing the monster she'd been made into long before their first meeting.

Because she wasn't a human being. How could she be? There wasn't a shred of humanity in her last night.

A monster.

One who liked to hurt others because it felt good.

Unhinged.

She'd been unhinged last night.

No one would ever look at her again.

Because after all...

everyone always left in the end.

She was always alone because no one liked her, because she was a monster.

"Oh god, Chérie, 'm so sorry, I'll come back la-"

Only just out of her thoughts enough to realise someone was there, and so she looked over her shoulder.

Gene.

"Chérie, what's wrong? Let's get y' dressed."

First he stepped into the room and wrapped her in a towel, and then started looking for clothes to put on her. There was no judgement...why?

"Why...? Why don't you...why don't you hate me?"

"Chérie, I could never hate y', why would I?"

Tears had been clinging to her face, but when the flood gates finally opened there was a steady stream of plips on the wooden floor as she looked at her feet, unable to meet Gene's eye in shame.

"L-L...Last night. Didn't y'hear? I...I...I snapped, I guess. Couldn't bear the thought of losing someone else."

He handed her underwear and turned away so she had some privacy to change.
