chapter 21

In the following days Andy started feeling very bad, she was always vomiting, she couldn't keep anything in her stomach, she ate very little and never got out of bed. Robert was worried about her and the baby but Andy was stubborn and didn't want him to take days off to stay home with her, but he couldn't concentrate on work knowing Andy was home alone like that. So unbeknownst to Andy he took days off and did the jobs he could do on his computer from home.
Andy: "I told you, you didn't need to take vacation, I can handle it on my own"
Robert: "it's more than a week that you haven't eaten and you vomit from morning to night, you can't even get out of bed and I don't want you to get away with it, I'll be by your side at any time whether it's good or bad"
Andy: "thank you"
Robert: "Are you decided you want to hear Carina?"
Andy: "still with this conversation, I already told you that nausea in pregnancy is normal"
Robert: "A little morning sickness is normal and a little vomiting every now and then yours is not just morning sickness as it lasts all 24 hours of the day!"
Andy: "I'm fine, now let me sleep"
Robert got out of bed, took a beer from the fridge and went to sit on the sofa in the garden, he needed to take his head off for a moment, he heard footsteps behind him he turned around and saw Nathan rubbing his eyes.
Nathan: "Dad, is mom better?" that was the first time that Nathan called him dad and his heart exploded with joy, Robert went towards him and took him in his arms.
Robert: "Mum still has that nasty virus but she'll be better soon, couldn't you sleep?"
Nathan shook his head no.
Robert: "a cup of warm milk might help"
Robert made him some warm milk with honey and when he finished drinking it he went back upstairs to bed.
Robert needed to vent so he called Luke, he knew surely he would be awake trying to put Ruby to sleep.
Luke: "Hey buddy, are you alright?"
Robert: "Yes and no, it's kind of like that. How is life as a new parent?"
Luke: "Pretty good, I just put Ruby in her crib"
Robert: "Can I talk to you?"
Luke: "Sure, tell me everything"
Robert: "It's Andy, she's been very sick lately, she's vomiting all day, she doesn't eat, she's very weak and she's so stubborn that she doesn't want to be visited by Carina. I'm so worried about her and the baby. I can't risk losing other people I love, I didn't think I would ever love someone again and now that I have someone to love, they might just walk away."
Luke: "Oh man I'm sorry, tries to talk to her again or you could make Carina come to the house against her will. Now I have to leave you, update me, bye"
Robert: "bye"

Robert hadn't noticed that Andy had gone down to the garden and listened to their conversation, took another sip of beer and then became aware of her presence.
Andy: "I'm sorry, I didn't know you were feeling so bad" she said sitting next to him and leaning her head on his shoulder
Robert: "I care about you and also a lot, I can't lose other people I love" he said with tears in her eyes
Andy: "oh Robert I promise you won't lose us, tomorrow I'll hear from Carina, I love you so much"
Robert: "Nathan called me dad" he said taking another sip
Andy: "And how does this make you feel?"
Robert: "well, I never thought he would do that, I mean I'm not his father he's known me for almost 2 years, ok we live together and everything but I'm surprised but I'm glad he sees me as his father"
Andy: "I'm happy"
Robert: "Let's go to sleep, you're hot, I think you have a fever, again"
Andy: "Tomorrow Carina will solve everything" she said as she stood up and then sat down again when she realized she couldn't stand.
Andy: "Robert, honey, can you carry me to the room in your arms?" she said on the verge of tears, Robert picked her up and carried her to bed.
Robert: "Andy, you've lost a lot of weight, it's not good for you or for the baby"
Andy: "I know and I'm so sorry"
Robert: "Now sleep, I'll try to hear Carina" he said giving her a kiss on her forehead and tucking her in the covers.

Robert went to the future baby's room and called Carina.
Robert: "hello, sorry to bother you"
Carina: "don't worry, did something happen?"
Robert: "Andy has been very sick for a week, she vomits at least 3 times a day, she is always nauseous, she can't eat, she has lost a lot of weight, she has no strength left, the fever comes and goes"
Carina: "from the symptoms you described to me I think I understand what it is but I prefer to see you in person, is tomorrow morning okay?"
Robert: "Can you come to the house?"
Carina: "Definitely"
Robert: "perfect, see you in the morning"
Carina: "see you tomorrow, good night"
