Chapter 24

Almost 2 months had passed since that day and Andy had always continued to work even if sometimes she felt very tired and therefore she asked Maya or Jack to replace her on calls and she stayed in the station to relax.
That morning Andy summoned Maya to her office because in the days before she and Robert had made a decision and wanted to communicate it to Maya.
Maya: "did you want to see me, captain?"
Andy: "come in"
Maya: "So how is the pregnancy going"
Andy: "everything is fine thanks, I'm at the end of the sixth month, I'll be entering the seventh month on Monday"
Maya: "It all went by so quickly"
Andy: "yeah, time flies"
Maya: "I hope one day to have children too"
Andy: "Have you ever talked about this with Carina?"
Maya: "yes, we both want them, we just have to wait for the right moment, when we talked about it months ago we decided to wait at least 2 years after our relationship and we'll have 2 years in 3 months, now we haven't talked about it for a while"
Andy: "I hope you can have kids soon, now let's get back to why I called you here. As you well know, in a few months I will have this little girl" she said, caressing her belly "and since I have been very tired and sore lately I made the decision to go on maternity leave. I will still work until the end of September since there are only 10 days left and then I will stay at home. So I wanted to ask you to replace me and be captain while I'm away."
Maya: "Okay captain, I won't disappoint you"
Andy: "I'm sure of this, that's why I chose you"
Maya: "I'll miss you Andy"
Andy: "I'm not leaving forever" she said laughing "I'll stay home 3 months before she's born"
Maya: "And when will you come back?"
Andy: "I don't know, the rules say that I have to stay at home until the baby is 3 months old but I will definitely stay at home more, I don't know how much longer"
Maya: "I'll come and visit you anyway"
Andy: "I had no doubts, now you can go back to work"
Maya: "Can you tell me the name first?"
Andy: "We haven't decided yet"
Maya: "HOW HAVE YOU NOT DECIDED THIS YET?"
Andy: "Don't worry, there's still time and even if we had decided I wouldn't tell you. Good job Maya"

The moment Maya left Andy's office, Andy saw Robert enter and made him sit in her office.
Robert sat on the sofa in the office and Andy lay down resting her head on his legs.
Robert: "How's your day?"
Andy: "all in all good, I asked Maya to replace me when I'm on maternity leave"
Robert: "and what did she said?"
Andy: "that she will do it with pleasure even if she misses me, have you found someone who can replace you?"
Robert: "no the only people I know who could replace me are you and Luke but he's retired and you'll be home"
Andy: "if you need help examining possible replacements you know where to find me"
Robert: "I think I'm really going to need your help"
Andy: "Maya reminded me that we still haven't choose a name"
Robert: "let's choose it now"
Andy: "Now? Okay, I'll write the names I like on a piece of paper and you'll write the ones you like on a piece of paper, then we'll compare them."
Robert: "Okay"

They sat on opposite sides of the desk and started writing names on a piece of paper, at a certain point Robert leaned forward to peek at Andy's sheet of paper.
Andy: "hey, no peeking" she said, pulling the paper tightly towards her
Robert: "I'm done"
Andy: "me too"
They compared their papers and there was a name that they had both written.
Andy: "I'd say we've found the name" she said looking Robert in the eyes
Robert: "I would definitely say yes"
Andy: "I'm going to pick up Olivia and Nathan from school, I'll see you at home" she said, getting up and giving Robert a kiss.
Robert: "see you at home" he said, returning the kiss
Andy: "I love you"
Robert: "love you too, see you later"
Andy: "see you later"

Andy picked up Olivia and Nathan and they stopped out to eat before heading home.
Once they got home Andy helped Nathan and Olivia with their homework, when she finished helping them they relaxed on the couch and then Andy started making dinner.
While preparing dinner the little girl continued to kick.
Andy: "Mummy's love, could you calm down for a moment so Mummy can finish cooking?"
The little girl, however, didn't want to know and she continued to kick, in the meantime Robert returned.
Robert: "Hi love, how was your afternoon?" he said hugging her from behind
Andy: "pretty good even though she's kicking me now"s he said leaning against him and closing her eyes to relax
Robert: "go and rest, I'll take care of it here"
Andy: "Thank you" she said turning and giving him a kiss before going to sit on the sofa.

Those 10 days passed quickly, on the one hand Andy was sad that she wouldn't be able to do the job she loves for a while, on the other hand she was happy because lately the little girl had been very wild and it was difficult for her to work.
Robert: "ready for the last day?"
Andy: "It's not the last day of my life, it'll just be a matter of a few months, I'll miss working but I admit I need a bit of rest"
Robert: "I'm glad you understood your limits"
Andy: "I would never have done something that could have put my health or, even worse, hers at risk"

After dropping Nathan and Olivia off at school they went to work where the team had thrown a party for Andy.
Andy: "You guys shouldn't have"
Jack: "It was the least we could do for our captain"
Travis: "We will miss you Andy"
Andy: "You guys make me cry like that" she said with teary eyes
The team had hosted a breakfast and then got some presents for Andy and the little girl.
Andy: "thanks a lot guys, but now it's time to get to work" she didn't have time to finish the sentence before the alarm went off and everyone had to go out.
It took them about 3 hours to put out the fire and when they returned it was lunch time, in the afternoon they relaxed and their shift ended before dinner.
Andy greeted everyone and promised to come and say hello soon, Pruitt was at home who had stayed with Nathan and Olivia that afternoon and was finishing preparing dinner.
Andy: "we're back"
Nathan: "MOMMY" he said running towards her
Andy: "Hi darling, how was today?" she said picking him up
Nathan: "good"
Olivia: "Mom, Dad!" she said rushing down the stairs
Robert: "hello love" he said of her, hugging her and giving her a kiss on the forehead
Olivia: "I got an A on the history test"
Andy: "well done love"
Pruitt: "How was your last day?"
Andy: "good dad, but I'm devastated"
Pruitt: "come and eat, dinner is ready"

After dinner Pruitt returned home, Olivia and Nathan went to sleep and Andy and Robert started watching a film in their bed, after the film they went to sleep.
