"I lie to myself like it's not too late

Convinced the past can still be changed

We know it's gone but I can't move on."

-----

"Hi? That's it?"

"...Hello?"

"...Nevermind."

Dabi looked over at him, confused. Hawks just dismissively waved his hand at him, in a haphazard way that honestly made him look like some awkward penguin waving it's flipper around. Hawks pretended not to notice Dabi holding back a laugh at it.

They sat there like normal for a few minutes, before Hawks abruptly stood up with an exaggerated huff.

"Ugh, this is so annoying!"

Dabi flinched slightly in surprise, staring up at Hawks from his position on the ground. Hawks nearly swung himself around to look directly at him.

"You can't just drop a bomb like revealing Endeavor's your dad and expect me to shut up about it forever!"

Dabi just blinked, making Hawks eye twitch in annoyance.

"And don't just sit there with your thumb up your ass, either?!"

"...It's comfy down here."

"Don't ignore me!"

"You should really sit back down, it's nice and warm-"

"You know damn well that soil is nearly frozen over!"

"Really I can almost feel a few worms squirming under me."

"...Is that supposed to make me want to sit down?"

"Yes."

Hawks shot a few bright red feathers hurling into the dirt, sticking out like missed arrows pelting the ground.

"Fuck your stupid worms!"

Dabi huffed out almost moodily. If Hawks wasn't too busy focusing on the matter, he'd probably be more upset about how much Dabi looked like an angsty teen right now.

"..,Fine, whatever. Talk about it, go on."

"What?"

"What do you mean, "what?" you said something about not ignoring it. Well, go on, don't go ignoring it."

Hawks sighed, retracing his feathers back into his wings and giving Dabi a defeated but glaring look.

"I really don't get you."

"What's there not to get? I'm just me."

"You- ugh." Hawks placed his head into his hands, mumbling curses and a few salty remarks about "why are you so difficult". Dabi stared at him, his face rather neutral, in stark comparison to Hawks'. Then he just let out a quiet sigh, looking away, really anywhere he could see that wasn't occupied by Hawks, and contemplating his next words.

"...It's not something I say lightly, you know."

Hawks paused midway through a very vulgar sentence, looking up from his hands. After a moment of silence, and the curiosity nearly radiating off of Hawks, Dabi's voice broke the eery silence of the night.

"...I don't acknowledge that man as a father. He doesn't deserve to be called that."

Hawks felt his shoulders stiffen, he didn't know why that sentence cut so deep. And maybe it was Dabi's serious voice, that was concerningly calm and without much venom behind it, or maybe it was the layers of background behind that sentence that scared him so badly. Whichever it was, he could only think one thing;

"What did Endeavor do to you, Touya?"
