As the days go on, so does the training of the simulations. The dauntless Borns are done so they join in with the transfers. Amar goes through each of them. All day every day.

One day after supper he pulls me aside. "I have to tell you something."

I look at him. "What about?"

He turns around, making sure that nobody is within earshot of us. "I think one of the transfers is divergent."

I raise my eyebrow at him. "Which one?"

"Four."

"What do you want to do about it?"

"Well I don't want you to tell anyone about it, that's for sure. For the meantime let's just keep it on the downlow." I nod, keeping this secret safe. Behind amar's shoulder, I see a flash of black walk past. He pauses, then I make out his face.

Eric.

"Hey what are you doing here?" I ask, walking towards him.  He shrugs. "Just walking around. What are you two doing?"

"That's not any of your business. Now why don't you get out of here before I kick your ass?"

"Fine then. Be that way." He walks off and I sigh. "Do you think he heard us? I wasn't expecting him to be here."

"I hope not." I look back at Amar. "You okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine. I just need to get some rest." He  walks off in the same direction as Eric, leaving me to wonder what's going to happen next.

The next couple days, Amar is acting differently, like someone scattered his thoughts. And Eric looks smug every time he looks at my way.

After the tests today, Eric comes up next to me. "I hear your buddy is being sent away."

"What?" I look at him confused.

He smirks. "Amar. He's being sent away. Thought you should know."

"Where is he going? When is he going?"

"Tonight." He turns and walks away. This must have something to do with the test that he took today with Jenine Matthews watching. She's the leader of Erudite. And she's watching for divergent. She says they are harmful to our city. Dangerous even. I know of one person who's divergent. Four.

Oh God I have to warn him. But amar's warning makes me keep my mouth shut.

I walk out of the pit and to the section of apartments where Amar lives. I knock on the door. "Amar? You there?" No answer.

I try again. "Amar?"

A woman comes out of one of the doors. "He's not here sweetie. Maybe try later?"

"Thank you. Let me know if you see him."

As I'm walking back to my own apartment, I spot Amar. "Hey I want to talk to you about something. Is it okay? I know you've been on edge for the past couple days." But he doesn't answer me. He just walks right on by.

"Amar!" He suddenly stops and turns to look at me. "What?"

"Can I talk to you about something?" I walk towards him. "You can tell me anything you know. I'm always here for you."

Suddenly he grabs my arm and drags me towards his apartment. As we walk in I notice several bottles on the counter.

"I'm leaving, Delilah."

"What? Where to? Are you going to be factionless?"

"No I'm going outside the fence in order to not be killed by erudite and dauntless."

"What are you saying Amar? Are you divergent too?"

He nods and sinks down on the couch. I can tell where he likes to sit because there's an indent on the cushions.

"How are you going to get over there?" I ask.

"Someone from the outside is going to come pick me up. And later tomorrow afternoon they're going to announce my death to dauntless. Make sure four is okay?"

I nod my head. "Okay Amar. I'll never forget you. No matter what." He stands up to give me a hug and he smells sweet and sour, like apples and beer.

He escorts me out the door and as I turn around, I hear the click of the door being locked behind me,  signifying that that'll be the last time I'll ever see him.

Sleep doesn't come easily that night. As I toss and turn through each hour, I worry about Amar. I also worry about how four is going to take the announcement of his "death". I know that Eric had something to do with this, and that I'm going to hate him for the rest of my life. He must have a special relationship with Jenine Matthews to be able to pull this off.

The street below my window lights up. I walk over to it and see some people in one of the amity trucks escorting someone. Amar. I watch as he gets into the truck and they leave the city, as far as I can see. Then he's gone.

I'm not the person to cry, but I cry now. One of my best friends just left because of the bullies in dauntless. They bullied him into leaving, and they will never be let go for that. As I sobbed, tiredness creeped into my body and soon the sleep came into my body until it overwhelmed me and my eyelids shut, rendering me of any thoughts I had left within me.
