Eric's POV
"The Leader"

It's the day of becoming a leader. I pace in my apartment, wondering what is going to happen. All of the other leaders are anticipating for tonight as well.

Especially the rumors. Delilah and Max have been getting on them lately, especially with the ceremony coming up.

I fina lly head to the pit and find an empty table. I get some stares from people, but I shrug them off.

"May I join you?" I look up and Delilah is there, tapping her fingers lightly on the metal.

"The seat is empty."

She sits, perched on the edge like a cat on a tripwire. "How are you feeling about tonight?"

"Pretty nervous." I look up at her. "How did you feel? At your ceremony?"

She ponder this for a moment. "I felt...Powerful. I knew the people approved of me as I was first in all rankings of initiation."

"So no nervousness?"

A short laughs escapes her mouth. "You have nothing to worry about Eric. You'll do fine."

"I mean I did take the final test and I was nervous, shouldn't that have gone away?"

"Nervousness can be mixed with excitement. So just think about happy things and the nervousness will go away just fine." She pats me on the back and starts to leave. But I don't want to be alone.

"Where are you going?" I call out.

"My apartment. Want to come?" Her eyes sparkle and I only notice when it's around me.

I nod and follow her. She lets me in and the apartment looks the same as it did last time I was in here.

"Would you like some coffee?" She asks as she pours herself one.

"Yes please." I'm not thirsty but I don't want to be rude.

She passed me a cup and sip it lightly. It burns my throat on the way down but it's good. We sit on the couch and she can't help but stare at me.

"What?" I ask, breaking her out of her haze.

"Nothing." She says and I know something is going on inside her head, something about me.

I drink my coffee till it's gone, then excuse myself out for the plan I have later tonight.

Walking in the shops, I don't know if they have any flower arrangements here but I stumble upon something with a floral scent.

Peeking my head in, I realize that it is a flower shop. Just what I've been looking for.

"Um excuse me," I say and the shop owner wrenches his head up from the bouquet he was making.

"Can I help you?" He asks.

"Yes, I need a small bouquet of flowers please."

"What color?"

"Red please."

He sighs, like I'm just a random stranger interrupting his work. Like he doesn't know the future leader of Dauntless.
