The Chasm

Chapter Thirteen

Today was Eric's visiting day with all of the other leaders. I doubt that he's scared like I was last year. And besides it will be fun to get out into the sunshine again.

Working in my office I heard a soft knock.

"Come in."

Eric walks in, showing off all the ink that he had on his arms and on his neck.

"Delilah, are you okay after what happened last night?"

"Yeah I'm okay now."

"Really? As a future leader we need to check up on each other and make sure we are prioritizing ourselves rather than other people."

This doesn't sound like Eric at all. "Are you okay? I've never heard you talk like that at all?"

"I'm just nervous. That's all."

"You shouldn't be. It's just going to be a friendly introduction. And besides, you've met Jeanine before so I don't know what you're so nervous about."

"Well I'm meeting her on a leader level. It's different than just meeting her when I was just a student." He says.

"You'll be just fine." I tell him. Grabbing my issued jacket, I head out the door with Eric trailing behind.

"You should put that jacket on," I say motioning to the jacket in his hands as we exit the doors of the building. Max and the other leaders are waiting for us.

"There you both are. We will be meeting with Erudite first, then Abnegation, Candor, and then amity." Max says.

"Sounds good." I say. The train comes and after we get in, Max tells Eric about what type of questions the other leaders are going to ask them.
I look out the door with no intention of falling out.

"You like living on the edge huh?" One of the older leaders asks. He's tall and intimidating. Probably about a few years older than Max. They both are.

"Yeah. Don't all dauntless do?" I smile, knowing that dauntless is bred into my blood. Faction before blood.

As the train slows, we jump off and make our way towards Erudite headquarters. Max scans his key card to be admitted and as we enter, Jeanine stands just inside the entryway.

"Hello everyone. Glad to see all of the leaders have come."  She says, extending a hand for us to shake.

"Hello Jeanine." We say. She nods my head in my direction. "I remember you from last year. Delilah right?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Well let's get to my office shall we?" She leads us through many hallways that are pristine. The shine is making my eyes burn.

"So Eric, I hear that you are the newest leader of dauntless." Jeanine says.

"Yes I am. I am almost completed with my training and the other leaders are pleased with how it's been going so far."

"I'm glad to hear that. We have very close ties with dauntless so it's important to meet as leaders of our faction."

Eric takes a seat across from Jeanine while we all stand behind him.

While they continue to talk, i take mental notes of how the other factions like us.

We work well with Erudite in terms of our serums .

Candor is also nice with us in terms of transfers from each faction.

Amity... well we havent been the best with us patrolling the fence all the time.
