A few days had gone by and Draco made their way toward their first period at college. As they walked, they spotted Harry heading in the opposite direction with a year 12 student in tow. Harry appeared content and had a faint smile on their face, something that Draco had not seen from them in a while.
Draco halted in their steps when Harry made their way over, "What do you want?" they asked, trying to keep their composure. "I want you to stop gawking. We're done, Draco," Harry snarled, his voice dripping with disdain. "And I am allowed to move on, someone who actually makes me happy."
Draco felt a pang in their chest at Harry's words. "You think you can just move on so quickly?" they questioned, the hurt in their voice clear. "That's none of your business, Draco," Harry hissed. "I suggest you stop worrying about me and focus on yourself for once." Draco bristled at Harry's words. "I am focusing on myself, Harry. I am trying to figure out who I am and what I want," they retorted, their voice stronger this time. "Unlike you, I can't just ignore my feelings."
Harry rolled his eyes. "Of course, you can't. You're too busy making everything about yourself," he spat before walking away, leaving Draco feeling dejected.
As Draco walked back inside from the chilly outdoors, they felt a sudden wave of emotion wash over them. The realisation that they had lost Harry hit them hard, and they couldn't bear to face their ex-partner's friends. They walked past the group and found a quiet spot outside, where they could be alone with their thoughts. But it wasn't long before one of Harry's friends came over, curious about why Draco looked so distressed.
Draco wanted to open up and let it all out, but they just couldn't bring themselves to talk about it. Instead, they put on their headphones, and a song by Cody Francis started playing. As the lyrics of "Rare Love" hit them, they felt their heartstrings tugged, reminding them of all the love they had once shared with Harry. They quickly turned it off and hugged their knees, feeling the weight of the loneliness stacked upon them.
Unable to stay in that spot, they got up and made their way outside again, leaning against the wall, taking deep breaths. But soon, the dizziness kicked in, making Draco feel physically ill. Without further ado, they called their mother and asked her to come to pick them up. They couldn't deal with college right now; they needed to go home and recover.
Narcissa arrived to pick up Draco and noticed that their child was clearly upset. Draco barely spoke a word as they got into the car and immediately rested their head against the window after buckling in.
After only seven minutes, they arrived at home, and Draco quickly scrambled out of the car, rushing inside with an idea in their head. They ran upstairs to their bedroom and rummaged through their wardrobe until they found the perfect outfit: a beautiful leather skirt and cream-coloured jumper. They tied their platinum-blonde hair into a tight braid and sat on their bed, crossing their legs over one another.
As soon as Narcissa walked in to check on Draco, she was relieved to see her child at peace with themselves again. When she opened the door, Draco did a little twirl in their outfit, which made her beam with pride. It was clear that this outfit had brought joy to her child's face. "You look amazing, darling," Narcissa said, her voice laced with emotion. She felt so proud of Draco for being so resilient and brave through what must have been a difficult day.
Draco's smile grew wider, and it was as though all the troubles they had faced earlier in the day dissipated. They felt a sense of joy and contentment, knowing that they were allowed to be themselves and were loved for who they were.
Draco looked at their mum as she complimented their outfit, her love and affection for Draco evident on her face. After a moment, Draco pulled up Harry's contact details on their phone, hesitating for just a moment before passing the phone to their mum. Narcissa took the phone and tried calling Harry from her own phone, but there was no answer. Frowning, Draco tried again from their phone, but still, there was no response.
