A month had passed and Daisy was preparing herself for her mother's funeral. Narcissa had made a promise that if she ever passed, Daisy could wear vibrant colours to celebrate her mother's life. Daisy wandered over to her wardrobe and found a long-sleeved black dress. She placed it on her bed, which now had a sombre ambiance. Harry entered the room dressed in an all-black suit and bestowed a tight embrace on Daisy. When he pulled away, he urged her to take her place at the service. She refused, as tears threatened to spill over her cheeks.
Taking note of her disconsolate state, Harry held her face tenderly in his hands and used the edge of his thumb to expunge her tears. "Will you wash your face for me, Daisy?" he requested gently. "I can help you with your dress once you're done." Daisy agreed with Harry's proposal and walked into the adjacent bathroom to freshen up. After drying her eyes, she returned to the bedroom, where Harry held the black dress. She unfastened her dressing gown, allowing Harry to assist her in donning the garment, carefully buttoning it at the back.
Daisy turned around and faced Harry's embrace, burying her face into his chest. He hugged her close, offering the only support he could provide. Together, they made their way downstairs and outside. As Daisy stepped out, her eyes met with the sight of the cars carrying a casket with flowers spelling 'Mum.'
It was too much for her; she lost her composure. The sobs she had been holding in started to break out.
Harry wrapped his arm around her waist, giving her the comfort she needed. "It's okay, Daisy. Let it out," he whispered, trying to soothe her. Her tears streamed down her cheeks, her voice choked with emotions as she whispered something Harry couldn't quite make out. "It's okay to be sad, Daisy. We all are," Harry said, rubbing circles on her back. "But your mum wouldn't want you to be in pain. She loved you more than anything. Don't forget that." Daisy looked at Harry through her tears, an expression of gratitude on her face.
Together, they walked towards the car as Daisy managed to gain control of her trembling voice. She whispered, "I won't ever forget. Thank you for being here, Harry." He simply smiled at her, opening the car door for her. "Always, Daisy," he said, helping her get settled inside.
As they drove to the funeral, Harry held her hand tightly in his, offering her the strength and support she needed.
As they reached the venue, Harry held onto Daisy's hand until they were led to their seats. The service began, and as Daisy watched, there was a strange sense of detachment that overwhelmed her. She tried to concentrate on the words being spoken, but they seemed vague and indecipherable.
It wasn't until the time came for Daisy to give her eulogy that she realised how unprepared she was for it. She felt her hands shaking as she clutched the notes that she'd written down. As she stood up, Harry's hand slipped into hers, holding onto her tightly. Daisy couldn't bring herself to speak. She began to tremble, her voice hitching with sobs she couldn't contain.
Suddenly, she turned to Harry as if looking for help, and he noticed the telltale signs of panic in her eyes.
Without a second thought, he stepped forward, taking his place beside her. He lifted his hand to the small of her back, the other wrapped around her arm in a reassuring gesture. "It's okay," he whispered, glancing at her with eyes full of concern. "Take a deep breath." Daisy did as Harry said, and together they stood there, the silence stretching on, as she regained her composure.
Finally, as tears streamed down her cheeks, she began to speak, her words halting at first, then slowly but surely finding their way out. As Daisy spoke, Harry looked at her with unbridled admiration. He knew that she was broken, and yet here she was, being a source of comfort for her family.
