Two Young Hearts

Chapter 5

I get to the rehearsal studio and message the group chat to see if anyone was there yet. The only person that replied was Jake. I went in to find him and as soon as I did Veronica messaged the chat saying she was here too. We all met in the rehearsal area and the camera crew gave us a clapperboard and told us to pose. It was very sudden but the pictures came out all right. They messaged the pictures to us and said that we were finally allowed to announce the show on our social media, so of course that was the first thing I did with the photo. They also gave us a link for people to pre-buy tickets so that they could get good seats. 

Then more people started arriving. Worker came with cookies for the cast and crew, everyone knew about them and were so excited for them. As soon as he put them on the table everyone swarmed to them. But no one was there quicker than Jake and I. They were on little plates, and Jake and I took two plates each and ran. We hid in a different room and ate them laughing until Veronica came into the room and told us that the director is sad now because we took so many that there were none by the time he got to the plate. He shrugged and offered one each to her and then continued to mess around until there wasn't a single crumb left on either of our four plates. We then came out and dumped the plates on the table before going into rehearsal. During rehearsal we had to work with our understudies on our numbers so Ruthie and I had to do the opening number together. The director asked me to do it first to show her what we have been working on so she could learn it. 

"Amazing Maya," The director said.

"It was alright, definitely not perfect though," Ruthie said, flicking her hair and taking my place.

She's trying so hard to get under my skin, but I can't let her. She tried doing the number without learning it first and it was a hot mess.

"It was alright, definitely not perfect though," I say laughing.

After rehearsals I got a message from Auntie Sandrine, she said Ava has been dying to see me and was wondering when I was free. I messaged her saying that tomorrow after rehearsals she could come, Lucas would just have to pick her up. I sent her a picture of Lucas so she would know that Ava was safe when he came to pick her up and then I told Lucas. He was more than happy. I booked a table at a restaurant so that we could go out for dinner.

- The next day -

I go into rehearsals and everyone is acting super weird. When I would pass them they would point at my neck and whisper. I went up to Veronica to ask what happened. 

"Haven't you heard, Ruthie saw that scar on your neck and told everyone that it was a cut mark," she said.

I put my hand up to my scar remembering what happened.

- Flash back - Maya's past -

You know that thing kids do where they push you before grabbing you and then say they saved your life? Well this little boy named Ari did this to me while I was standing at the top of the waterfall near my childhood home when I was young. He didn't manage to get a good hold of me and I tumbled over the side and hit the back of my head on the sharp rocks below, cutting deep. My mother then called the hospital and I had to get stitches. The scar is still there.

- End Flashback - Current time -

"Well, how would she know that, it definitely isn't, It was from when I fell off a waterfall when I was little, I'll explain later but you need to help me tell everyone," I said, and for the rest of the rehearsal every chance I got I had to tell people what actually happened.

Afterwards Lucas and Ava came to pick me up and Ava came running to give me a huge hug, I knelt down and squeezed her tight. I got Veronica to take a picture of the three of us before we left and while we were in the car I posted it. 

We went to a Mexican restaurant, I got nachos, Lucas got a burrito and Ava got enchiladas. We had a blast so it was sad when we had to take her home, but after we dropped her off I got a message from Auntie Maha saying that she bought August tickets to the opening night of my show, and somehow they bought his seat right next to Lucas's so Auntie Maha didn't have to come. Lucas was more than happy to look after him. Then I also got a message saying that I had an interview with WIRED tomorrow morning. After the chaotic day of rehearsals I fell asleep on the drive home.
