Chapter 10

I drive down to the address for the viewing and see Charlotte waiting for me outside the house. I got out of my car and had to control myself when walking over to the house. I almost started running because I was so excited. 

"Hi Maya, welcome to the viewing." Charlotte says.

"Thanks Charlotte, the house looks great from the outside," I say, admiring the house.

"It's a beautiful property, with a lot of character. Shall we take a look inside?" she asks.

"Yes, please," I say, following her in.

"Great, let's start with the living room. As you can see, it's quite spacious and has a lot of natural light." Charlotte says.

"Yes, it's lovely. And the fireplace is a nice touch." I say, admiring the room.

"Yes, it really adds to the coziness of the room. Now, let's move on to the kitchen. As you can see, it is fully equipped and has plenty of counters and storage space." Charlotte says.

"Wow, this is great," I say, admiring this room too.

"That's great to hear. Now let's take a look at the bedroom. There is one bedroom in this house, and it is quite spacious." Charlotte says.

"It looks very comfortable. I really like the natural light that comes in through the windows," I say, scanning the room.

"Yes, the windows are large and let in a lot of light. And it has its own closet, which is a great feature," Charlotte says.

"That's perfect, I have a lot of clothes!" I say, opening the large closet.

"Well, then you will definitely appreciate the closet space," Charlotte says laughing, "Lastly, let's take a look at the back yard. There is a personal garage that is attached to the street behind."

"This is amazing. I love the garage and the fact that there is so much space for outdoor activities." I say, looking around the garden.

"Yes, it's a great feature of the property. So, what do you think? Would you be interested in making an offer?" Charlotte asks.

"Absolutely, I love this house. Let's talk more about the details," I say, following Charlotte back inside and we sit in the living room and determine down payments. 

After looking through the property values I decide to make a 20% down payment, which is around $17,000. Which then gets the payment per month to around $660, with a 15 year fixed loan and a 6.15% interest rate. Then I pay for inspections of pests, dry rot, radon, hazardous materials, landslides, flood plains, earthquake faults, sewer scope and crime statistics. And Charlotte assures me that the results will be back by next week. Then we completed a home energy audit and I was happy with it. A week later, I got the test results back and everything looked good so I signed the loan document and made an appointment to close escrow. 

I came home late to the dorm and there was a note taped onto my dorm. 

You took what mattered most to me. I never forgot it. If you don't give it back, I'll take what matters most to you. Don't get too cocky thinking I won't know what it is, because this note is on your door, isn't it. You know who I am and you know where to find me. Make the right decision. - C.T

I panic and run inside scrunching it up. I didn't think they would be able to find me. I throw it in the bin and notice another piece of paper in the bin. I take it out and it's one with the exact same handwriting on it.

Next time I will make sure it's not an accident... - C.T

I knew what I had to do, I shoved both the notes in my pocket and got my phone out. They said if I ever needed help from them again to just call them, and if I could, talk, but if I couldn't, just hang up as soon as they pick up and they will track the call. So I got my phone out and called them. They answered after two rings, then I hung up straight away, you never knew who could be listening...
