CHAPTER 05
Two years ago...
“Hindi ka ba talaga sasama, Sorelle?” my best friend asked me.
Gustuhin ko man, hindi naman pwede. My parents won't let me unless I have a chaperone with me.
She gave a huge sigh of disappointment while playing with her pen.
Iʼm not a grade-conscious person and everyone knows that, even our teachers. Sanay na sila sa palaging asal ko sa classroom but they would constantly remind me that I have a potential if I participate more and be active.
Grades are not a reflection of oneʼs worth—iyon ang motto ko sa buhay. Instead of putting pressure on myself to be the best, I decided to stop worrying about it and just enjoy my high school life.
“Sige na, sabihin mo nalang birthday ko...” Aven is still not letting go of the topic.
“Just say it's Razielʼs birthday. Kasama naman kamo naʼtin ang mga bodyguards ko.” she winked at me.
Of course that's a lie. Same thing with me having a chaperone.
“I donʼt think theyʼll allow me...”
My parents are very traditional and strict. I canʼt go anywhere without their knowledge.
I did attend some parties before but they weren't really for me. Partying needs too much of your energy and I can't provide that so I'll just stay inside my room and sleep.
“Tumakas ka nalang.” bulong pa ni Aven.
Dumilat ako at agad kaming nagkatinginan. Slowly, her smile went wider.
My guilt eats me up everytime. I have never rebelled against my parents in my entire life. Maybe the closest thing I did was being lazy at school but aside from that, wala na.
Kaya imposibleng magawa ko ang sinasabi niya. Kapag hindi nila ako pinayagan, hindi ako magpupumilit.
“Ayaw ko.” I shook my head and that made her pull out the last card on me.
I shifted my seat to face her, nakuha na ang buong atensyon dahil sa narinig.
