"I'm home, mom!" Ariel announced, walking into the house.
"Welcome home, sweetie!" Maya said, giving her daughter a warm hug. "How was school today?"
"It was... eventful," Ariel said, her voice trailing off.
Maya noticed the redness and swelling around Ariel's eye. "Oh no, what happened?" she asked, a worried look on her face.
"I slept in class today that why" Ariel said
"No need to lie to me, dear," Maya said, a knowing look in her eyes. "I can tell when you're not being honest."
Ariel let out a sigh. "Fine, I didn't fall asleep in class," she admitted. "I got into a fight."
"Oh no!" Maya exclaimed. "Why on earth would you do that? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, mom, really," Ariel said, "We settled it and everything's okay now."
"Are you sure?" Maya asked, her brow furrowed with worry.
"Yes, mom, I promise I'm fine,"I know how to handle myself."
"Okay, I believe you," Maya said, though she still sounded a little uncertain. "But go change your clothes, and come down for lunch."
"I'll be right down," Ariel said, heading for her room. "Thanks, mom."

As soon as Ariel was safely in her room, she let out a sigh of relief.
"That was too close for comfort," she said to herself.
Then, she pulled out her phone and dialed Chloe's number.
"Hey, it's me," she said as soon as Chloe picked up. "I just got out of a sticky situation."
"Oh no, what happened?" Chloe asked
"I had to lie to my mom," Ariel said, her voice tinged with guilt. "She noticed the redness and swelling around my eye, and I had to make up some story about how it happened."
"Wow, that's so stressful!" Chloe said,
. commiserating with her friend. "I can't imagine how hard it must be to keep all that a secret."
"It's definitely not easy," Ariel admitted. "But I'm glad I could talk to you about it."
"Of course!" Chloe said, her voice warm and supportive.
"You know what?" Ariel said, her voice taking on a mischievous tone.
"What?" Chloe asked.
"I'm going to make sure Alex gets a taste of his own medicine," Ariel said, a wicked grin spreading across her face. "I have a plan."
"Ooh, I like the sound of that," Chloe said, a devious smile on her lips. "What's the plan?"
"Well, I can't tell you yet," Ariel said, her voice mysterious. "It's top secret."

"Mom, you're the best cook in the world," Alex said, giving her a big hug.
"Thank you, sweetie," Agnes said, smiling. "So, how was school today?"
"It was good," Alex said, his voice cheerful. But he quickly changed the subject, not wanting to talk about school. "How was your day?"
