Six years had passed, and Ava was a beautiful six-year-old girl with long, silky blonde hair and light green eyes. Her cheeks were rosy, her smile wide and beaming. She was dressed in a pink, frilly dress, her feet encased in sparkly white shoes.
Despite her young age, there was a wisdom to her eyes, a maturity beyond her years. She was truly a special child.
"Wow, your new backpack and school sandals are so cool," Ava said, admiring Jane's new gear. "Where did you get them?"
"My dad bought them for me," Jane said, a smile on her face. "He's so generous."
Ava nodded, but her own smile faltered. She didn't want to admit that her own father hadn't bought her anything new for school. It made her feel a little jealous.
"What did your dad get you for school?" Jane asked, oblivious to Ava's discomfort.
Ava hesitated, her heart sinking. "Nothing,"
"Who bought your bag for you?" Jane asked, curious.
"My mom did," Ava said, a hint of sadness in her voice.
"Why did your mom get you everything?" Jane asked, a bit puzzled by the situation.
Ava sighed, her shoulders sagging. "I don't know," she said, her voice soft. "Maybe my dad just isn't around as much."
"Oh, I'm sorry," Jane said, her face full of sympathy. "That must be tough."
"It's okay," Ava said, mustering a smile.

Raymond was just about to head out the door, when he spotted Jonna out of the corner of his eye. His heart skipped a beat, and he froze in place. He debated whether to turn around and go back inside, but it was too late."You don't have to run back inside," Jonna said, her tone firm but gentle. "I'm here to talk to you about something."
"What is it?" Raymond asked.
"It's been six years since " Jonna began, her eyes fixed on his. "And I just want to know if you still think of me as a burden."I don't understand why you treated me the way you did,"
Jonna said, her voice shaking with emotion. "I loved you so much, and it felt like you didn't care at all. It was like I was nothing to you. And that hurt so much."
She took a deep breath, trying to keep her composure. "I just want to know if you really meant all those things you said. If you really thought of me as a burden."
Raymond felt his heart break into a million pieces. He didn't know what to say.
"Fine," Jonna said, her voice cracking. "I'll leave you alone. I won't bother you anymore. But please know that I did really love you. I just wish you had given me a chance."
She turned to walk away, her head held high, but her heart was breaking. She had so much to say, but she knew it wouldn't make a difference.
Raymond's heart was breaking too, but he didn't know what to say. He knew he had hurt her, and he felt awful about it. But he wasn't sure how to fix it.
