"How was it?" Ran asked, leaning against his hand. "Way better than the food I make," Y/n replied with a smile as she scratched down a few notes. "And shouldn't you be working?"
He gave a sweet smile. "I've been caught~" You sighed, "Honestly, at least Rin is helping." He hummed as he continued to type on the computer. "Aren't you supposed to be the older one?" you asked, glaring at Ran as he tried to balance a pencil on his nose. "I am~"
"As I told you, I'm the better brother," Rin said, scoffing. "I'm starting to believe that," you replied.
"Hey, Y/n?" You hummed. "Why are you only using one hand?" You paused at Rin's words. "I noticed it too," Ran added, looking up at you from his resting position on the table.
"Why not? It could just be that I'm a bit lazy," you said, clenching your other hand in your pocket.
"That's unlike you," Rin replied, glancing at you from the corner of his eye. He looked down at your hand, quirking his head slightly to the side. "Unless..."
His hand clasped around your forearm and pulled your hand out of your pocket faster than you could react. "H-hey!" Their eyes widened, and you couldn't help but grimace.
Your palm was badly-bruised and swollen. The center was a dark shade of red, where your mother had dug in her heel.
You tried to pull away, but Rin held tight. "I'll go get Nana." Ran got up as your eyes widened. "W-wait, don't━" you stammered, tugging on his shirt.
"Y/n, you need to get that treated before it gets worse," he interrupted, gently taking your hand off his shirt. He was out the door before you could say anything else.
"This looks pretty recent," Rin mumbled, staring at the wound. "Did this happen when you got jumped?" He glanced at you as you nodded. "Tsk, what did they do to your hand?" He gently placed your hand in his, but you still winced. "Even the slightest touch hurts, huh?" He scoffed again, "The center looks like someone twisted their heel into your palm." You looked away, avoiding his prying eyes. Is this dude psychic or something? "This looks more like abuse." Your eyes widened, and you couldn't help the dread that crept into your stomach.
"Let go," you mumbled, trying to pull your arm out of his grasp. "Y/n━" "I said, let go of me!" you interrupted, pulling harder.
"Tch." Rin grabbed your opposite shoulder, keeping you in place. "Who the hell did this to you?" he snarled, bringing you closer.
"Rin..." You shut your eyes as the pain made you see black. His eyes widened as he pulled away. He gently cupped your hand again. "Sorry," he mumbled. "But don't expect me to let this go," he added, giving you a hard stare. "You didn't even bother bandaging it up, much less applying an ointment to help with the swelling," he added, gritting his teeth.
"I wasn't allowed to," you whispered. Afraid that if you said anything too loud. She'd somehow find out.
"Y/N!"
You both looked up as Ran and Takeuchi-sama came in. She knelt next to you as she took your hand. "Ran, go get some towels and a basin of hot water. Rin, get the first aid," she instructed, eyes never leaving your hand as the brothers hurried out of the room.
Her fingers trembled as she stared at the wound. "Who would do this to your hand?" she whispered, trailing a finger over it. You gritted your teeth.
"Nana," Ran warned, but it fell on deaf ears. He set the basin down and handed her the towels. She rinsed one in warm water and started dabbing the wound. You flinched so hard that Ran frowned as he turned to his nanny.
"Nana, you're hurting her," he spoke, glancing at your trembling form. Your other hand over your mouth to keep you from screaming. Ugh, that really hurts, Y/n thought as she squeezed her eyes shut.
