Y/n sighed, her breath creating a small cloud in the chilly air. You leaned against your hand as you propped it against your knee. You were thankful that yesterday there was no school. What Sebastian had told you...was a lot to take in. And even as the sun began to peak through the horizon, the second day starting. You made no move to get up from the hill and start the day like everyone else.

Your eyes drooped, not from lack of sleep but from the truth hitting you again. But unlike yesterday, today was a school day. Another sigh left you as you watched the water reflect the tinted sky.

"Y/n?"

You whirled around, so startled that you lost your balance. "Whoa, careful!" An arm grabbed yours, but your legs disappeared from under you, and you face-planted into the grass. Draken's hand was still holding you as he blinked at you in surprise. He watched as you removed your face, blowing a piece of grass from your mouth.

"That was some breakfast," you grumbled as he helped you sit. He chuckled as he knelt beside you. "I figured you were an early bird, but not this early. The sun isn't even fully out," he added, shielding his face from the rays.

You looked away, dejected, as you chuckled. "Ha, yeah, I had a lot on my mind."

"You also look like you need a good long nap," he added, eyeing your dark circles. You looked the other way, avoiding his prying eyes. "A lot on my mind," you repeated, sweating since you could feel his sharp gaze. He leaned back, turning his gaze to the waters. "Wanna talk about it?"

You clenched and unclenched your fist. "Not really. I want to do something about it." "Does it have something to do with this?" You glanced at his hand and your eyes widened. He grinned as you felt your soul leave you. "H-how did you get that?" you stammered, searching your pockets.

"Oh, this little thing?" He grinned as he twirled the sheathed dagger. He got all serious. "It was on the ground when you fell."

...

You blinked as he tried to keep from smiling. You held out your hand. "Give it." "No." Your eyes widened before returning to a glare. "Draken, give it back!" You reached for it, but he was as tall as Ran, so he easily kept it out of reach.

"Answer my question, and I will." You sighed and plopped back down with a frown. He watched you as he carefully brought his arm down. You lunged for the blade, but he reacted quicker. He grinned as you glared up at him.

"Tsk, fine," you paused and answered. "Yeah, I was planning to use it."

"On someone?" You stayed quiet. "Y/n?"

"Yes," you mumbled. He stared at your hunched form, your hand still clenching and unclenching. "Y/n, why? Are you trying to take someone's life?" he asked, confused, brows furrowing.

Your shoulders sagged. "I...I don't know what I'm doing." You trailed your fingers through your hair, pulling at it as you let your face crumble. "I've spent the past two days sitting here, thinking. Thinking, why would she?" your voice cracked as tears threatened to fall. "Why...to her own daughter?"

"Did something happen with your parents?" Draken asked cautiously. You sucked in a breath, calming yourself. "You could say that," you answered, softly. He stayed quiet, twirling the dagger in thought. "I think you need to tell me more than that if you want this back."

You sighed and explained what Sebastian had told you. Y/n side-eyed Draken as he took this in, frowning in thought. "Yeah, I can see why you'd want to do this," he said, after a beat of silence and handed you the dagger.

You blinked in surprise and reached for it, the weapon securely in your hands. Draken wrapped a hand over yours, over the dagger. "But knowing you, you won't be able to do it." Your eyes widened, before narrowing.
