Chapter : 9 -

Lilith's p o v :

The night of Mia's birthday was really bad, it was fun until I saw the face of the man I hate the most, although I know nothing about him, all I can hope for is that he should be better than my mother.

I was grateful of Samuel, he helped me alot that night, although he may not be aware of it.

I knew that we reached my home when the car stopped but I didn't wanna go home. I'd rather spend a few more minutes with Samuel and I think he noticed my fake realization when I looked up at him. The thing thats bothering me is how he knows the man my mother is selling me to? All my mother provided me with to know the man was a photo, not a name, nothing. But then, Samuel asked me about him. I should ask my mother if Elliot is his name.

---

My father said we'll eat dinner together. He went out with his friends for lunch. It feels good to not be scared of staying home. I've been thinking of quitting my job at the cafe and drop out of college cause its exhausting, as much as I love science and it took me alot to study so hard and get a scholarship at harvard university, my desire to just work and not worry about studies and fees and everything wins over all of it.

Its been going around in my mind alot, and I think I might as well do it but I'll talk to Mia, apologize to her about yesterday and talk to her about all of this, then make a decision. I take my phone and dial Mia's number.

She picks up on the 3rd ring and starts bursting with thousands of questions.

"Calm your ass down,Mia." I say, in a tired voice.

"I'm sorry. Its just I was so worried, you ran away just like that and you wouldn't pick my calls. But then I remembered Samuel running behind you, so I called him and he told me he dropped you home and that I have nothing to worry about, thats when I tried to make myself beleive that everythings fine and slept." She explains.

And I find myself crying silently. I made my bestfriend worry so much cause of my shitshow of a life and it makes me think I don't deserve any of this.

"Hello? Girlie you there?"
"Yeah I'm here. I just need a minute." I say in a strained voice.

"Awe,baby. I wish I was there, please don't cry."

"I'm so sorry,Mia. It was your birthday, I shouldn't have made you worry so much. You were supposed to have fun not waste your time thinking and worrying about me." I say, crying even harder.

"Its not your fault, darling. I'm sure the reason that made you act up like that and go AWOL for the night is valid. It better be or I'll kick you ass."

"Don't blame yourself for this Mia but the man my mother is selling me to was there so I panicked and ran away."
"God that bitch! Don't even call her your mother. And that son of a bitch why did he come. Its not like I invited him."

"I know. Just let it be for now. I just wanted to explain so you don't worry all day."

We talked for a few more minutes about Samuel and then ended the call. I should probably go outside for some fresh air till dad comes back.

---

I'm at the library, after thinking and thinking, driving to wherever this scooter leads me. I find myself at the library of all places.

Well, if I talk about the truth, me and Mia talked quite alot about Samuel Richard and guess what, he is Cedric's best friend, who would have thought of that? I spent most of my life with Mia and Cedric and I didn't know Cedric's bestie.

Anyways, so as we were talking, she also mentioned that Samuel loves reading books. So, I thought why not try some books out, so we can talk about them if we meet again by any chance?

I mean who would want to make a talk awkward, when you can have something to talk about endlessly. No matter what you talk about and to who you're talking to and how comfortable and good you guys are, things can become awkward, it happens with me and Mia too.

I enter the library and go to the front desk. A beautiful blonde lady who looks like she's in her 30's is sitting on the chair, reading a book.

"Excuse me? Do you know any good fiction books you could recommend for starters?" She looks up as I speak and says.

"Sure, darling. You should try something simple and interesting that will keep you hooked from the first few pages."

"Okay, sure."

"You wanna try murder, romance, psychology?"

I contemplate what to get for a good few minutes.
.
"Murder, sounds good. I'm Lilith, by the way." I say and hold my hand out for her to take. She takes it and says. "Beautiful name, honey. I'm Camilla. Murder is a good choice. Should I show you some from which you can choose, Ms.Lilith?" I nod and follow her into the murder mysteries aisle.

---

We chose a murder mystery book series. A good girl's guide to murder by Holly Jackson. I tap my fingers on the front desk as I wait for Aunty Camilla to bring my books. I turn around and admire the beauty of the library. Its been 10 minutes and she hasn't returned, god knows where they keep all the book copies in this humongous library.

"Hello, Lilith." Someone whispers in my ear. I startle and turn around to see Samuel, grinning at me and sigh out of relief.

"Why the hell did you scare me like that?" I say, kinda annoyed but mostly happy to see him again. When he doesn't reply and keeps grinning. I break into a smile and say.

"Hello, Samuel. How have you been?"

"I was not okay but I definitely am now."

I blush at the statement and try to act fool but, I ain't the type who can lie without being evident about it.

"What are you doing here anyway?" I ask, trying to change the topic.

"Oh, I come here all the time to get books."

"Thats great." I say and take a look at him when he turns towards the front desk. He's wearing grey sweatpants and a baggy black tee, looking as good as good can get.

"Hi aunty!" I stop staring at him, when he speaks and turn around to see Aunty Camilla back with my books. She comes closer to me and whispers in my ear. "Done checking him out?" I blush so hard and turn away, only to see Samuel looking at us with a questioning look. I turn around to Aunty Camilla again.

"Here, these are the books." She says, as she hands them to me. The books are so pretty and aesthetic, I might cry. I keep them on the desk so she can sum it up and tell me the amount I have to pay.

"Sam, should I get the books you asked for dear?" Aunty Camilla asks to Samuel. "Yeah, sure. Thanks, aunty."

Just as I'm about to ask him if he wants to grab a coffee with me, my phone starts to ring. I take my phone and see Dad calling, so I pick the call.
"Hey, dad! I'm almost done. I'll be there in an hour."

"Hello, darling." I freeze, my smile drops.

The last time this happened it didn't end well...
