THE NEIGHBOURS LAWNMOWER WOKE UP THE RESIDENTS ON NORTH HENNEPIN AVENUE, the early morning breeze wafted in threw the gap in Juliet Barnes' window, making her fly away hairs move back and forth when the breeze picked up and dropped again. The sun beamed its warmth at her curtain, outlining the edges of it and just peeking threw the gap, shining a beam on her face. Summer of 93' was here, and it was showing signs of being perfect.
A lot had happened since winter. As his mom would say, Adam Banks hopped on the train of puberty which just gave him the shivers of second hand embarrassment. He had grown at least a foot since winter, his hair had grown longer and it was starting to become lighter due to the sun that kissed his tanned skin and made his blue eyes pop.
Jules had matured a bit more as well, she'd puberty long before Adam but her mind had matured in the few months. Maybe that had something to do with her mom and dad separating, but she just seemed different. Adam noticed it more then the others, she was gloomy and dark and was struggling a lot not seeing her mom anymore. Juliet never had the best relationship with her mother, but it still hurt not being able to see her every day. She'd moved to Los Angeles with her new boyfriend and his four year old son, and they never heard from her again.
But, there was still many aspects that were the same and never once hid away in the face of a dark time. It seemed, ever since they won the Championships, Jules and Adam only want to play hockey. Since the lake wasn't frozen anymore and the rink was always filled with the tourists that came to Minneapolis in the Spring, they couldn't practise on ice so resorted to rollerblades, and a little red ball for a hockey puck.
They'd practise in Banks' driveway, since she lived in the apartment block but sometimes they'd play at the park with the others. Goldberg was the only one who never showed, he never practised in the off-season whereas the rest did. It probably wasn't very good for his skills, but they didn't argue that much.
"And she takes the puck, she goes for the goal, she shoots, she scores!" Barnes narrated as they skated around Adam's driveway, punching her fists in the air. He laughed, doing their little handshake which now has incorporated a stick tap and a butt bump, "And that's how you do it." She does a little twirl, which is proven a little harder in roller-skates but she still manages to pull it off, "Suck on that, clompers." Jules tugs on her North Star jersey, wiggling her brows when the sound of the duck call echoes, catching their attention.
"Hey, you wanna play some real hockey!" Jesse Hall hollered from the end of the drive, Guy, Connie, Averman, Charlie and Goldberg stood beside him with hopeful smiles. Jules and Adam grin brightly, dropping their sticks just inside his house and grabbing their helmets.
