//yay woo thank you Takishima_Akira for requesting! Sorry this isn't a songfic! I couldn't find a good song to go with the idea I had in mind!

The heir to the throne. The oldest of two brothers who were also princes. That's who Lovino Vargas is. The thing is, though, he doesn't really feel like the oldest.

Ever since his younger brother, Feliciano, was born two years after him, it's like he was forgotten. Faded into the background. A simple background character in the main story of things.

His father, King Romulus, used to have him on his knee, reading many stories of their kingdom's rich history. His stories. Stories that weren't told to anyone else by his father like that. Not anymore, though. His father reads those same stories, HIS stories, to that worthless little brother of his.

"He hasn't even had his rite of passage and lead an army into battle!" Lovino would exclaim, jealous that his younger brother didn't have to show his adulthood, that he didn't have to dirty his hands with other's blood. His father would just shrug him off, smiling at the little auburn pest.
"He's too fragile for war." He would say, dismissing Lovino from the throne room that he would once claim as his own. Not even sending a glance his way.

Lovino hated it. Luckily, though, they couldn't give the throne to Feliciano. That, at least, was secure in his hands. Something that his younger brother couldn't take away from him. Something that was promised to be HIS from birth.

He even had a gorgeous fiancé! _____ is her name. He wouldn't see her often, only because their kingdoms were so far apart. Her visits were scarce but heavenly. She seemed indifferent towards his brother, and that was a godsend to him, since everyone else practically fawned over his younger brother.

He lived through this torment for 15 years. 15 years since that pest called his brother was brought into this world, taking their mother away as the price for him being here. He would never forgive him for that, either. His mother was a gorgeous woman, and he would always wish that she never would've had Feliciano, that she didn't feel the need to have another child.

One day, he was walking down the hall, when he heard his name in a conversation between two maids.
"He's so detached from everyone else, I barely know anything about him" One maid said to the other, her unsightly face contorted into that of frustration.
"I think that Feliciano should become king. It'd do the kingdom much better than if that Lovino was king." The other maid said, her distorted face just as bad.

That was the last straw for him. He stomped back to his room, his eyes glistening with tears unshed. He was 17 years old. He shouldn't be crying. He quickly packed up clothes and the decently sized bag of gold he kept in his dresser. He quickly grabbed a piece of parchment paper and a quill, scratching down a long letter to his father, explaining everything. He took his small gold circlet off of his head, frowning before snapping it in two, since it was flimsy and made of unpure gold, unlike his brother's. He threw the two pieces into his bed, peeking out of his bedroom and handing the now folded-up letter to the maid outside of his door, asking her to bring it to his father and he watched her walk down the hallway with the letter. He made sure the cost was clear before making a makeshift rope from his bedsheets, climbing out of the castle with only his suitcase and everything inside.

He fled the castle and kingdom, living on his own for a good 6 months. He grew calloused and tough from the time on his own, living in the same circumstances as the farmers out in the country.

He decided to return home after those 6 months, frowning softly when he saw that really nothing changed when he got back to the castle. He walked in through the front door, the guards recognizing him. He gasped and almost collapsed out of shock when he saw his younger brother, all dressed up like he was the next for the throne, holding _____ close like she was his, not Lovino's.
