//thank you sourpicklepie for requesting! this is based of an AU I found on tumblr, so don't credit me!

Your world was black, white, and gray, completely devoid of color. That's how it's been for as long as you can remember. You heard stories from married couples, talking about the beautiful colors, but you wondered what they were talking about. The entire world was just black, gray, and white.

They would tell you that once you find your soulmate, that the color of the world would bloom and the world would be a beautiful place. Of course you didn't believe them, since your apparent soulmate was nowhere to be found. You have probably dated half of the boys around your age, looking for that spark of color.

You sighed and went to your job, working at a barista at a local coffee shop. You personally loved your job, since it was quite peaceful and the place was beautiful, even in black and white. You smiled and served the small group of customers, there was never a lot of people who came in.

You were making a cup of plain coffee for someone when you first saw it. Instead of the coffee looking black, it looked different. It wasn't black anymore, but actually.... brown. You rubbed your eyes and saw that it was back to normal, thinking it was just your eyes playing tricks on you. You handed the woman her coffee and smiled, hoping that wouldn't happen again.

The rest of your day went by as any other day. You finished your shift and left work, starting to walk back home. That's when it happened again. You were looking at the small wildflowers growing next to the sidewalk and one of them was actually yellow. You went wide-eyed, staring at the now colored flower. You crouched down and picked it up, twirling it slightly in between your fingers. You put it in your hair and continued walking home, a soft smile on your face.

Maybe you did actually believe the stories about seeing color after you find your soulmate, but you'd never admit it. Once you got home, you put the still yellow flower in a vase to keep it alive longer. You stayed at home for a bit before you went out with your best friend, since she wanted to bring you to a cute little restaurant that just opened up and she wanted to try it out.

You met with her a bit before you got to the restaurant, walking with her until you completely stopped in your tracks. You saw a man, completely in color. You were breathless, never seeing this much color before. The man turned around and went wide-eyed when he saw you, a shocked expression on his face. You completely forgot about your friend as the man walked up to you. You were mesmerized by him, thinking that people looked so much better in color.

"Excuse me miss, but can you see it too? The color?" The man asked, an awestruck smile on his face. You nodded softly.

"Yes. Yes I can." You replied breathlessly, since it never crossed your mind that you'd ever find your soulmate. He reached out and took your hand, gently holding it and intertwining his fingers with yours.

You took a couple blinks and were shocked. It was like someone flipped a switch and all the color turned on. You looked all around, finally understanding what all those couples meant.

You turned your attention back to the man, who seemed to be just enjoying his newfound sight of color, relishing in the different ones. He looked back at you and smiled happily, hugging you close and kissing the top of your head. You laughed softly, looking up at him.

"Don't be so straightforward! I don't even know your name yet! I'm _____." You giggled out, a bright grin on your face. He rolled his eyes softy and patted your head after he kissed it.

"I'm Ludwig." He replied, keeping you close to himself.

You were glad that you went with your friend that day, or you'd have never met your soulmate. After only 5 months you two got married, knowing that you were perfect together. He even brought his dogs to the wedding, making you giggle since his brother managed to find tuxedoes for dogs and dressed them up.

Now, the roles are switched. You are the one that can see color, and you're the one that tells the kids the story. The story that when you find your soulmate, you can see all of the beautiful colors, hoping that the kids will find their soulmate a someday when they're older.
