Chapter 19. (8:29 pm, 30 minutes later) The kids were sitting on the couch with a bowl of spaghetti in their laps and a piece of garlic bread in hand, the only sound in the entire house was light chatter coming from the tv to keep the kids entertained, wonder pets. Troy and Lyric were seated at the kitchen table while she cleaned him up, she gripped his chin lightly in one hand, using it to turn his head to the opposite side every so often while her other hand worked on cleaning his face up with an alcohol wipe. His eyes hesitantly flickered up from the table after 5 minutes of not looking her in the eyes, they were sharp, focused on what she was doing and ignoring his gaze. He swallowed at the intensity of the look on her face. "How is your hand? Your head?" Troy asked softly and she drew in a deep breath through her nose, beginning to nod but her eyes stayed on her working hand. "It's okay" Lyric sighed out, "The ibuprofen helped my headache." She said plainly. "Your hand?" He inquired gently and she shook her head. "Not much change." She replied simply and his eyes rescanned her facial expression, it was hard and concentrated. "You should probably get it cleaned up and wrapped, or at least get some ice o-" "I'm not worried about my damn hand." Lyric interrupted him sharply and his parted lips pressed into a thin line to silence himself, swallowing. He noticed the kids turn to look at them through the doorway, and then look at eachother in concern. "The gash is pretty deep, i think it would be smart to worry about it." Troy uttered gentler, still a bit of concern in his voice, but more cautious this time. "I'm more worried about you because you are bleeding and bruised, and your hand is very fucked up, my hand will be fine." Lyrics tone was still irritated but she attempted to be reassuring. He could tell that he had royally pissed her so he bit his tongue and his eyes fell back down to the floor. Lyric started to clean a slash on his cheekbone, it was quite deep so she presumed it had been caused by Alexanders gaudy ring, as soon as the alcohol hit it his jaw tightened, trying to keep himself quiet. "Ow, fuck" He winced out through his gritted teeth. Her eyebrows twitched with a twinge of empathy but she stood firm on her frustration, she huffed in disbelief, running her tongue over her bottom lip. "God, you're an idiot." Lyric breathed out and tossed the used alcohol wipe aside onto the table. Troy drew in a shaky deep breath and began nodding. "I have to come to realize that for you, yes, i am." He said under his breath. She took a silent glance over at him while she unwrapped a small bandaid, attempting to disregard any feelings about his quiet statement while she placed the bandaid over the gash.

Lyric ripped open a fresh alcohol wipe and gently took his hand in hers, carefully going over the dried blood and bruises on his knuckles. She softly blew over them attempting to dry the alcohol residue quicker so she could proceed with wrapping his hand. Troy just sat there and watched her the entire time, trying to avert his eyes else where when her eyes moved to anywhere else besides him. Lyric grabbed a piece of gauze from the open first aid kid with her free hand and laid it down gently over his knuckles, keeping it in place while she reached for the bandage tape. She carefully began to wrap it over his knuckles and then down around his palm, working her way around his wrist to completely secure it. She grabbed the pair of scissors beside her and cut off the tape where she needed it, sticking it down to itself. Lyric rounded up the used bloody alcohol wipes and bandage wrappers and stood, walking across the kitchen to discard of them. When she returned to the table just a moment later she tried to grab a couple things from the first aid kit to put them away but he immediately set his hand over the lid and closed it, her eyes moving up to meet his for the first time in 10 minutes. "No, sit." Troy demanded gently. Her jaw tightened as she stared down at him because she wanted to just walk away but she couldn't help but give into him, so she just exhaled heavily and plopped back down into her seat. He re-opened the first aid kit and placed a couple of things back inside that he wouldn't be needing, hesitantly and gently taking her hand in his and turning her hand over so her palm faced up. He re-examined it for a few seconds with concern in his eyes, tilting his head ever so slightly to get a better view of it. "You got all of the glass when you pulled it out at least." He mumbled and his eyes returned to the table so he could locate the rubbing alcohol wipes, picking one up, Lyric attempted to mask how nervous she was for how much this was going to sting. When he prepared to rip the packaging open a gentle anxious sound came up the back of her throat, his eyes moved up to hers to notice that they were glued to his hand that held the rubbing alcohol wipe, dipping his head down a little to make her look at him, which she reluctantly did. "It's okay, okay? I've got you." Troy reassured her under his breath and she drew in a deep breath, exhaling as she began to nod. Troy slowly returned her nod before he ripped open the packaging with his teeth, unfolding the wipe and slowly bringing it down to her palm. Her eyes were still connected with it when he gently set it over the gash and wiped it carefully, her jaw hardening at the stinging sensation the alcohol left while he delicately cleaned it, tracing around and over it. "See, not that bad.." Troy whispered, his eyes returned to hers briefly which stayed on what he was doing, nodding gently in response. He set the wipe aside after removing the blood and grabbed the tube of Neosporin that laid on the table, applying just a bit over her wound before he got a gauze pad, carefully setting it on her palm. Troy lifted her hand a little and grabbed the roll of bandage tape, pulling a decent amount of it out before he began to gently wrap it around her palm. "There, all done." He reassured her and folded it down over itself to make it stay. She cleared her throat before she spoke, rounding up the items from the first aid. "Thank you." Lyric murmured. He nodded in response and helped her put everything back in the kit. She closed and picked it up, carrying it across the kitchen to put it back in its original place. Troy could tell that she was still upset with him just by the way her hips swayed so aggressively and he set his head back momentarily, letting out a quiet groan before tossing himself up out of his chair and following after her. Lyric set the first aid kit down on the counter so she could toss the single alcohol wipe away and put the food away from dinner. Troy approached the other set of counters behind her and crossed his arms over his chest, silently wondering if he should attempt to speak or not. Lyric grabbed the container of spaghetti off of the counter and opened the fridge door, placing it inside. She shut the fridge door and stood there with her hand still gripping the handle, she could feel his eyes burning through her and she couldn't handle not saying anything anymore, letting her hand fall back to her side and turning to look at him. "Listen, you need-" Lyric silenced herself when the kids came into the kitchen with their empty bowls, pressing her lips together and turning back to the counter to put the first aid kit away. "I'm going to bed mommy" Ella said softly and set her bowl inside the sink. "Okay baby, goodnight" Lyric said and stood up on her tip toes, placing the first aid kit back in the cabinet above the fridge. "Goodnight Miss Lyric, Goodnight Troy." Gabriel said and set his bowl in the sink with Ella's. "Goodnight kids." Troy called, wiping the reoccurring drop of blood from his bottom lip with his tongue. "Goodnight." Lyric said gently before Ella followed Gabriel out of the kitchen and up the stairs to their bedroom.
