Today was the worst day of the year. Halloween. My twin brother and his cocky friends, went around the school pulling pranks and jump scares. I hate today.

I gasp and clasp my hand over my chest when someone makes me jump. "Maya, it's me." My best friend Ellie laughed.

"Sorry." I breathe out smiling a little. "Don't let them win." Ellie smirks. "What?" I laugh, confused.

"Give them a jump scare, or a prank..." she grins. "No." I say in a serious tone. "Come on moomin!" She pleads. "Ellie." I shoot her a glare. "Fine." She groans and rolls her eyes. She has always loved giving me that nickname.

I shut my locker and see my brother and his idiotic friends parading down the corridor. I scoff at them. Theo my brother walks over to me and Ellie. "Mum asked for help with Lottie's Halloween party later but there is a team meeting. Soooo..." He says before I cut him off.

"No." I snap. "I can't do it, I'm busy." He yells. "So am I!" I yell back hitting him on the chest. "Maya, please. There's nothing I can do, I'm the team captain." He states whilst I roll my eyes.

"I'll stay with you and we can still get dressed up." Ellie says. I nod in acceptance. "Plus Lottie is cute, so it's a bonus." She smiles, making me smile in return. "The team meeting will obviously be at ours." Theo grins.

"But that's where the decorations will be getting put up!" I shout, annoyed with Theo's attitude. "Just act as if we aren't around." He shrugs. "That's impossible, she can't resist me." Noah smirks. He enjoys winding me up, to the point I want to curb stomp his face.

"You fucking wish." I scoff whilst Ellie laughs behind me. "Cupcake, if I wish any harder, fate will upset you." He pouts. "Stop winding her up." Theo playfully shoves him laughing.

I turn around and start walking down the corridor when I see a nerf bullet fly above my head. I look up and a gallon of PVA glue is dropped on my head. I hear laughs fill the entire corridor.

My chest tightens. I turn round and see my brother and his friends laughing hysterically. Tears fill my eyes. Ellie looks angrily at them whilst placing her hand on my back. "Breathe moomin." She whispers.

I fight for my breath as it is snatched from my lungs. Tears fly down my cheeks. My body temperature instantly rising and making me boil from the inside out as anxiety swallows me whole. Everyone's eyes on me.

I am suddenly moving towards the front doors of the school as Ellie guides me through the laughing crowds. Humiliated. I still fight for my breath as fresh winter air hits my face, turning my tears icy cold.

A few minutes later my breathing slows and my vision becomes crisper. Ellie is in front of me on the phone, whilst trying to talk me through another panic attack. My body was flooded with anxiety at the beginning of this year for no reason.

I don't know what happened.

Moments later, my mum pulled up and jumped out of the car. She wasted no time in bringing me into her embrace. I felt safe here. "Oh hunny, are you okay?" She puzzles. I nod and sniffle up through my nose.

She guides me to the car and Ellie goes back inside. We set off driving home and she speaks up, "Theo is in so much trouble after his team meeting."

I shake my head. "I don't think Theo did this. Yes, he was laughing, but Noah was holding the nerf gun." I sigh. She hums at my response. "Mum, please get rid of any ideas you have in your head." I whisper keeping my head down.
