I awake with Lottie still cuddling me. She is such a cutie.

The summer sunshine peaks through the little gap in the curtains. Today was a lovely day, I can just tell.

I gently pry Lottie's arms off of me and walk down the stairs. When I reach the bottom I glance out of the big glass doors leading to the back garden.

I see my mum and Theo setting up the patio and pool. We must be having company.

I walk outside onto the back garden to join them.

"What's going on?" I ask brushing my hair behind my ears.

"It's the fourth of July!" My mum explains excitedly. "Oh my god, I completely forgot!" I screech rubbing my forehead.

"How could you forget? We host it every year." Theo laughs and carries on placing towels down on the end of each sun lounger.

"I need to bake the cake!" I say running inside. As I run inside I can hear my mum and Theo laughing at me.

I had completely forgot it was July fourth today. We host it every year. We have a BBQ and games. Everyone comes round and we all go in the pool. It's fun, fun, fun all day.

I run up to my room and quietly walk in and grab a hair tie. I run out and down the stairs. When I get into the kitchen I wrap my apron around me.

I chuck my hair up in a messy bun and grab all of the ingredients.

I get to work making the cake batter and then separating it into tins and placing them in the oven.

Once the cake tins are in the oven and the dishwasher is loaded, I walk outside into the back garden.

My mum and Theo are setting up the big table. "What time is everybody coming?" I puzzle.

"2pm." My mum smiles. "You are covered in flour." Theo laughs.

"I can take a shower in a bit, I have plenty of time." I say walking closer to them.

"Did Lottie stay in your room last night?" My mum asks wiping my cheek. "Yeah, she was upset. Some of her 'friends' were mean to her." I explain whilst using air bunnies around friends.

"What, yesterday? At the park?" My mum asks confused. I hum in response. "Because she doesn't have a dad to go to the daddy daughter dance when school starts." I roll my eyes.

"I can take her." Theo frowns. "She thinks it's lame to take her brother." I explain and they both nod.

"I'll figure it out." I shrug. They both carry on setting up as I walk inside and get out everything I will need to decorate the cake.

Once everything is set up I go and have a quick shower.

I go into my bathroom and undress out of everything and step into the shower. I am quick today as I have a cake waiting in the oven.

I am washed and dressed in 20 minutes.

I head downstairs and leave Lottie who is still asleep. Bless her.

When I get downstairs, it isn't long until Lottie appears.

She climbs up into one of the stools around the kitchen island. "Good morning Lottie lulu." I smile whilst taking out the cake sponges.

"Good morning Maya." She beams whilst taking in the fresh baked cake scent.

"Are you excited for all of the guests to come round later?" I say excitedly for her. "Yeahhhh!" She drags out clapping her hands.

"We can play in the pool and we can play gamessss. We can eat lots of cake!!" I explain to her which gets her more excited.

"Just dance!" She squeals. That makes me freeze for a few seconds. Me and Ellie did just dance every Independence Day. Lottie used to try and dance along as well.
