BRIGHTNESS
Brightness walked out of the Astronomy cave, her mind swirling with the dreamy colors of the stars and constellations. Maybe one day I'll enchant myself so I can fly to the moons.
"Hi, Brightness!" She turned to see Firefly smiling at her, more energetic than usual. A warm, fuzzy yellow hummed from her scales.
"Hello," Brightness answered. "You're yellow."
Firefly looked confused, but the corners of her mouth irked back up. Brightness was just wondering why she was so cheerful when her aunt had just been attacked when the hybrid dragonet continued, "I met your twin brother today. Visioner, right?"
"Yes," She replied cautiously. "I think he's in the healing center."
"I met him there." Firefly's face fell. "I was dragging Jasmin to the healing center."
Brightness pretended to look mildly surprised. "Jasmin's at the healing center?"
Firefly nodded ruefully. "I found Jasmin fighting this really big HiveWing, and she was barely alive when I found her. I spat my venom at the HiveWing, and then she just fell to the ground and disappeared into a feather."
"Animus magic?" Brightness suggested.
"I think so, too." Firefly frowned. "If it is, then whoever did this is really cruel! Why would anyone want to kill Jasmin? She's not the kindest or caring dragon, but I'm pretty sure she had nearly no enemies. Hm...maybe someone who was a relative or friend of someone she assassinated in her earlier days?"
Brightness shrugged. She was glad to see that her clawmate was getting nowhere near the real truth.
"Well, I'll see you later!" Firefly flashed her another, halfhearted smile before hurrying away.
"Bye," Brightness called after her. Hm. She's...nice.
No need to get too attached to another dragon.
Remember, she's my next target.
Brightness stopped at a narrow gap in a dark hallway. Hardly anyone went here, since the tunnel led to Stonemover's cave. Not even Sunny visited the imprisoned dragon. She wasn't even sure that the old NightWing was still alive.
"Eclipse," Brightness whispered. Two bright blue eyes blinked up at her. She held out a talon, and a chicken appeared. It let out a shrill squawk, trying to escape, but Eclipse darted forward, sinking razor-sharp teeth into its neck. The chicken went limp.
Blinking gratefully at Brightness, Eclipse settled down and gnawed at the chicken.
After she had finished, Brightness stroked the ocelot's soft fur.
"Now," She murmured. "Go kill Firefly."
