JASMIN
Jasmin's brain and body were screaming at her to sleep. It was tempting; no, tempting didn't cover the desire she felt. It was as if she was in desperate need of water, found an oasis, but couldn't drink from it because it was highly toxic.
Yes. The perfect description.
She remembered her old...friend? Partner? Enemy? It was...hard to describe. He had suffered so much, and she had always ignored his pain.
She sighed, leaning back into the soft folds of her bed.
Maybe a little bit of rest will be okay, Jasmin thought. I'll probably die if I won't.
She wanted to give into her exhaustion, to relieve her pain and think about her horrific nightmares later, but she knew that she could hang on for just a bit more.
You've handled worse situations, Jasmin thought to herself. You call yourself an assassin?
She could almost hear Deathbringer's laughter if he had been here to see her desperate state.
I've taught you better, He'd taunt. Or have I been overestimating you the entire time?
She'd never lose to that pompous slug-brained idiot.
Jasmin realized that there was something lying besides her bed. It was made of a strange, silvery material, and when she prodded it it was cold and hard. It was quite large, almost exactly the size of a dragon's arm.
No, She thought. That is a dragon arm.
There was a note next to it.
I lived with my suffering. Now it's your turn.
Sincerely, Krill.
VISIONER
Visioner began to notice how often Brightness was out of class. She was barely in school, and he only ever saw her in the prey center or rarely, some of the classes they shared together. Mink's suspicion was starting to make him feel wary of his twin sister, but how could he ever suspect the only dragon he'd been able to rely on for years?
Brightness had told Sunny that Stonemover was dead. She'd ended his life, ended his slow and painful death. He had requested it, she'd explained, and had told her to tell Sunny and Queen Thorn that he loved them till the very end.
Visioner knew that Brightness had done it for the better, but he couldn't shake off the feeling that she'd killed someone so casually, without regret.
Maybe Mink was right, after all.
Guiltily, he realized that he had never really noticed Brightness because of Anemone and Tsunami's death, Jasmin's near-death, and the confusion of the memory problems he had when Destroyer had torched him. Sometimes he got confused of where he was and why he was there, or forgot simple things like his name and his friends and family.
He wondered how he was still alive, when he should have been instantly killed the moment Destroyer broke his neck.
I'm getting off topic again, He thought.
But he couldn't remember what he was thinking about in the first place.
