BRIGHTNESS

Brightness watched as Mink flew away with Queen Snowfall. She allowed herself the tiniest bit of satisfaction.

One enemy gone.

Just as she turned away, she spotted a movement in a shadowy part of the mountain. Eclipse slinked out.

Did you get her? Brightness asked. The ocelot shook her head, growling.

Venom, was her short reply. Brightness narrowed her eyes and slashed her claws across Eclipse's face.

Eclipse snarled, jumping back. A thin trickle of blood flowed from her muzzle where a claw had ripped the flesh.

Never be afraid, Brightness hissed. Next time, I won't be as forgiving.

Eclipse let out a frustrated snort and slipped away, her long dappled tail lashing angrily.

Keep trying, Brightness called after her. Don't stop until you succeed.

JASMIN

Jasmin felt pain spark her entire body. Wasp grinned menacingly at her, a jar of flamesilk in her talon. She unclipped the muzzle around Jasmin's snout and jumped back.

"What do you want?" Jasmin snarled. She lunged at the queen, though she was stopped by the thick chains. "You aren't even interrogating me."

"Oh, I don't need information." Wasp's face was twisted into a furious snarl. "I'm torturing you for revenge."

MINK

I'm really going. I'm finally away from the school.

Mink saw Snowfall glance at her, and she smiled, feeling light for the first time in weeks.

"I missed the snow and ice," Mink told her sister. "I can't wait to see everyone! Even old Tundra, the grumpy old walrus!"

"The 'grumpy old walrus' might not be celebrating your return," Snowfall pointed out, but Mink could see that she was hiding a smirk. "And we're going to see Crystal first thing in the morning."

"Morning?" Mink groaned. "I thought I'd finally be able to get some sleep."

"Too bad," Snowfall teased. "Oak and Glacier aren't exactly the calmest dragonets in Pyrrhia, so you might want to watch out."

Mink giggled. She felt like the times when she, Snowfall, Crystal, and Queen Glacier had been together. The most loving family in the world.

And now half of them were reunited.

"I'll be on my guard," She said instead. "And I'm going to eat a huge seal as soon as we arrive at the Ice Kingdom!"

"Sure." Snowfall let out a laugh. Mink laughed with her.

She was finally where she belonged.
