FIREFLY

Firefly cast a nervous glance at the empty seat her clawmate should have sit in. Brightness was hardly in class anymore, and she wondered if something was going on.

Maybe she's not feeling well, The hybrid thought. If that's the case, then I hope she gets better.

She flipped through a fascinating scroll-like thing called a 'book', which dragons from Pantala used.

Maybe one day we'll start making books too, Firefly thought. They don't take up as much space, and it's way easier to read without being careful about a long scroll dragging on the ground!

This book was about humans, published by a HiveWing named Cricket. The writer had apparently mistaken humans as 'reading monkeys' before Wren and Sky, the famous human-and-dragon duo, had announced that scavengers or reading monkeys preferred to be called humans.

"That's an interesting book you chose." Firefly blinked, and turned around to see a SandWing peering over her shoulder. He had one amber earring and freckles on his snout, which was slashed by a jagged scar. "Humans...Oh, this is Cricket! No wonder the writing sounded like an over-excited rainbow."

"Who are you?" Firefly asked. She thought she saw this strange SandWing around somewhere before.

"You don't know me?" The SandWing looked mildly hurt. Firefly thought she could sense humor from his emotions, but she wasn't sure; she'd never met a dragon with so many feelings at the same time. It was almost...overwhelming. "Well...I'm Qibli. I was part of the old Jade Winglet."

"Oh!" Firefly gasped. "I know you! You saved the world from Darkstalker!"

Qibli grinned, though she felt his discomfort in being the center of attention. "Right. That's me, Savior of the World."

"SAND-SNORTER!" Firefly jumped at the loud voice, but even more at the suddenly icy atmosphere. A frighteningly handsome IceWing stomped inside, grumbling. She felt mixed feelings of fury, frustration, annoyance, and so much more. She'd thought that Qibli was the most complicated dragon ever just a moment ago, but now she was sure that this new IceWing was even more so.

"Where WERE you?" The IceWing demanded. "Moon told us to stick together!" Firefly stumbled at the sudden rush of confusing emotions.

"Oh, hi, Winter!" Qibli turned to Firefly. "This is Winter. You probably know him. Ex-prince? Non-savior of the World? My best friend?"

"O- oh," Firefly stammered. "I do."

Winter frowned down at the hybrid, and she found herself shrinking away from his gaze. His cold gaze landed on Qibli, and his blue eyes narrowed.

"I am still a prince," Winter growled. "And I'm not your best friend."

Qibli opened his mouth to say another funny retort, but a quiet, almost unnoticeable NightWing with silver teardrop scales under her eyes and a dark green SeaWing with matching quietness entered the cave with a pink-and-yellow RainWing with alarmingly loud, positive emotions.
