Two green tents, standing side by side, had been meticulously set up in a secluded section of the abandoned mall. The fabric flapped gently in the breeze, creating a sense of shelter and intimacy in their makeshift base. Nearby, a circle of chairs had been arranged, each one carefully positioned to accommodate every psionic child. In the center of their gathering sat a lone red lamp, its warm glow casting a soft and comforting light over their assembly.
A member of the group, a young boy with a quiet demeanor, took on the role of narrator. With a sense of excitement in his voice, he addressed the circle and began to recount their recent achievements.
"Last week," he began, his words carrying a note of pride, "we scored five pallets of fresh produce off a delivery truck." His fellow psionic kids listened attentively, their eyes shining with anticipation and gratitude for this newfound source of sustenance in their secluded sanctuary.
"What do you do with all of it? I mean, it's only the four of you." Yuta asked, earning a chuckle from the ginger, who was supposedly the group's leader.
"We do the work that needs to be done. We're the arms and legs of a greater cause."
"Wait—" The teen's words caused Jaehyun to lean forward in curiosity. "Do you know him?"
"Know him?"
"Yeah, the Slip Kid," Trinity answered, her eyes trailing to one of the kids who gulped loudly. Shooting him a not-so-subtle glare, the blonde shook his head in response,
"Nah. Nobody knows the Slip Kid."
Yuta had a feeling the teens knew more than they were giving out. With faux hesitation, he glanced at the leader with a serious expression. "We're trying to find his camp."
"East River?"
"So, it's real?" Jaehyun questioned hopefully.
"Sure."
The brunette shrugged, drawing a scoff from the older male.
"So, where is it?" He asked, annoyance evident in his voice.
"I can't tell you." The younger teen answered nonchalantly.
Rolling her eyes, Trinity deadpanned, "You've got to be kidding me."
The brunette replied with a fake smile, "It's called a secret for a reason."
"It's one of the Slip Kid's rules." The teen with curly jet-black hair added, "One hundred percent secrecy. It's the only way he can keep all the kids safe."
Jaehyun and Yuta sighed in what seemed like defeat, but Trinity scoffed lightly as she turned to the teen beside her. "Do you think that we've survived by following the rules?" She questioned.
