The couple trudged through the dense woods, their footsteps heavy with exhaustion and grief. The forest, usually teeming with life, seemed eerily silent. Each crackle of a twig underfoot sounded too loud in the oppressive stillness. Jaehyun's eyes were set ahead, focused on the path, but Trinity could see the tightness in his jaw, the way his fists clenched and unclenched, betraying his emotions.

They had made it out. But....not together.

She wrapped her arms around herself, as if the action could somehow keep her heart from breaking further. She blinked rapidly, trying to keep her vision clear, but every few minutes, her mind returned to the moment their best friend stayed behind, leaving himself as a sacrifice.

"Yuta..." she whispered under her breath, but the word dissolved in the wind.

Her boyfriend must've heard her because he stopped walking and turned to her, his eyes filled with a mix of determination and grief. He stepped closer and pulled her into a hug, the sudden warmth of his arms almost undoing her composure.

"We're going to be okay, Trin," he whispered, though the crack in his voice betrayed him.

Trinity nodded against his chest, but tears leaked out, silent and unyielding. "It doesn't feel like it," she choked.

Jaehyun tightened his hold, his chin resting on her head. "I know. But we have to keep moving. For him. He wouldn't want us to—"

"To give up," Trinity finished, pulling back slightly, wiping her tears. "Yeah, I know."

The two stood there in silence for a moment longer, drawing strength from each other, before they resumed their trek into the unknown. Surviving was one thing, but finding a place to belong, was something else entirely.

Eventually, after months of searching, they stumbled upon it—a hidden, abandoned military facility on the outskirts of a small town. Hidden beneath layers of overgrown forest and forgotten by the world, it was the perfect place to disappear, to build something new.

They stood in front of the crumbling structure, its towering walls overtaken by vines and rusted metal. The building had once been a stronghold for the military, but now it was nothing more than a ghost of the past. Trinity's heart pounded in her chest as she looked at Jaehyun, her eyes wide with a mix of fear and hope.

And so, they began to rebuild. The facility had its own communication systems, long abandoned but still functional. With their supernatural abilities, they managed to repair the equipment, sending out low-frequency signals across the country. The signals were meant for one group and one group only: psionics like them.

They called it District Nine.
