The soft glow of morning light crept over the horizon, casting long shadows across District Nine. The air was crisp and quiet, filled with the promise of a new beginning.

Trinity stood on the roof as she usually did, gazing out at the forest stretching far beyond their hidden sanctuary. She could hear the faint hum of the frequencies pulsing through the air, a comforting reminder of all the psionics who had found their way here.

Jaehyun joined her, his arm instinctively slipping around her waist as they both soaked in the moment. It had been a while since they'd built this place-a home for the lost and powerful-and they had survived despite everything they had endured.

But there was still a hole in her heart, one that hadn't been filled since Yuta's sacrifice. He should be here, standing next to them, laughing, teasing them like he always did. His absence had weighed heavily on both of them.

As if sensing her thoughts, Jaehyun squeezed her gently, and she responded with a faint smile, though there was a lingering ache in her chest.

"Let's check on everyone else," Jaehyun suggested, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, good idea." Trinity nodded, her unease lingering as they made their way down the stairs.

When they reached the common area, it was quiet-almost too quiet.

District Nine, usually buzzing with the chatter of psionics, was oddly peaceful. It may have been due to how early it was in the morning, but it seemed like they were not the only early birds.

Lena-one of the Greens-was finishing up a routine check on their communication systems, while Kai was sitting cross-legged on the floor, his eyes closed as he practiced controlling his newfound abilities.

It was almost eerie how calm everything felt.

And then, the sound came. A soft, skittering noise.

Jaehyun's head snapped up, brow furrowing. "Did you hear that?"

Lena turned around, eyes narrowing as she listened carefully. "Yeah... what was that?"

A sudden movement caught Trinity's attention out of the corner of her eye. She turned just in time to see a blur of fur darting between her feet.

She yelped, jumping up. "What the-"

Then, she burst out laughing. "It's a mouse!"

But Jaehyun wasn't amused. "I don't care what it is-it's fast!" His voice was indignant, but the panic in his eyes made the situation far more amusing.

Kai, meanwhile, was on the verge of hyperventilating. "A mouse? In here? What if it's got, like, superpowers or something?" His imagination clearly ran wild as he edged away from where the creature had disappeared.
