As I continued to drink my coffee, I tried going over different scenarios on how I was going to tell Simon about könig. What was he even doing here?
After pondering on what felt like forever, I heard the break room doors open; it was Gaz. He sits at the table and looks at me, giving me a look of 'You wanna explain what happened?' but I signaled a glimpse of 'I'll explain later.' He nodded as he understood and made himself a cup of tea.
Time passes by, and it has been over an hour since the könig moment happened. Simon walked into the break room; he looked rested.
"Good morning, Rose." He said as he walked over to the counter. I could hear the small pep in his voice, and the second I heard his voice, I forgot what I was even bitter about. I smiled, "Morning, sir. How'd you sleep?" I raised a question, and he scoffed with amusement. He takes a quick scan around the room discreetly before he answers, "Considering that you were there, better than most days." My cheeks flushed with red. I shift my body towards him, looking at him as he mixes sugar in his tea.
"You know..." I whispered, slowly moving closer to him as I spoke, "I would love to get to know you more, Simon." I could see his eyebrow slightly rise as he stopped stirring. My eyes lock onto his as he faces me, his tone sounding deep yet seductive, "Trust me, good things take time, don't they love?" I smirked and took the last sip of my coffee, "Affirmative, sir." I placed the cup in the sink and went to the doors. Before leaving, I looked back, catching Simon staring at me; my body felt slightly feeble as I saw his eyes scanning me up and down while he drank his tea. "Hasn't anyone told you It's rude to stare, Simon?" I teasingly winked and made my way out.
______________As I made my way to the gun range warehouse, I bumped into Price; thankfully könig wasn't with him. "Sir," I said as he made a stop before me. "Rose, glad I caught you. Mind if we talk a bit?" he asks as he arches his eyebrow up with folded arms; damn it. "Price, I apologize for earlier. There is... history there. History no one knows about." I murmured as I looked at the floor in regret. Price cleared his throat and nodded, "I understand. Well, please don't let it affect you on the field. I hate to break it to you, but könig is joining our force as an addition to Penelope. They are now helping with our mission."
Hearing Price's words cut like knives in my chest. König is now a part of our task force?! I smiled weakly and looked back at Price, "understood, sir." He patted me on my shoulder and smiled warmly, "If he tries anything, we have your back." he reassured me.
I continued my way to the gun range, thinking about Price's words; I was not ready for the next couple of weeks with könig on our team at all. Reaching the warehouse, I strolled to the gun locker and grabbed some knives and pistols. Holding one of the pistols, I felt the steam I needed to blow off and clicked the safety off. The target pops up, and without hesitation, I shoot, aiming at the head, and as one target goes down, another shot up.
*ping, ping, ping*
Hearing the bullets hitting each target felt pleasing as each shot went off. Running out of ammo, I grab my throwing knives and throw them aiming at the gut and heart areas.
"Ah, seems like I found you, Liebe (love)." A voice echoed.
I rolled my eyes and sighed loudly, könig. I slam my weapons on the range table and turn around; there was könig, leaning on the door. "You lost every right to call me that." I gritted as I folded my arms, showing clear annoyance. He scoffed, "Not a very friendly way of welcoming me to the force." His footsteps planted heavy on the floor as he walked towards me; he halted, making space between us. He looks down at me, "I missed you, Schatz (honey)." My blood pressure rose as his words echoed in my head; his toxicity was showing already. "No. You don't get to say that when you know what you did könig." I replied firmly.
Flashbacks of us started roaming in my head, and my emotions slowly started creeping in, but I couldn't show it. I had to keep my composure.
"Come on, Rose, it was a one-time mistake." he lightly chuckled. "König, bullshit. You know damn well it was not one time." my voice cracked; I looked away as I went to grab my weapons. He sighed; he knew I was right but was too proud to admit it. Silence fell between us; I tried walking away but felt his grip on my wrist softly, stopping me short. I looked at him as my eyes watered; his green eyes met mine. "I'm sorry, bitte (please)," his head slightly tilted, giving me a look he did when he begged. I couldn't fall for his tactics; it wouldn't work, but I was still hurt. Vulnerable sometimes. "König, let me go; I can't do this right now, okay?" I looked away as a tear shed down my cheek. He stood silent and let go of my wrist, "Okay." he replied quietly.
Once I put my weapons away, I approached the door to head outside the warehouse. I tried hard not to break down when returning to my room; I didn't want anyone to see me crying.
I just wanted to be alone.
