I felt heat warming my eyes as I opened them slowly. The hospital lights were blinding. I looked over to the side of my bed seeing the multiple monitors hooked on to me.

I groaned as I tried adjusting myself, seems like the pain meds were starting to wear off. I look over to the other side and see roses placed on the nightstand. There was a small card in front of it with a bear alongside of it;

Feel better Rose, hoping for a speedy recovery for you ~ Price, Soap & Gaz.

I smile. "Bunch of guppies"

*knock knock*

I see a head peep in before completely coming in, couldn't exactly see who it was though. "Hello?" I spoke out hoarsely. My throat was a bit dry so it hurt to talk a bit.

Finally the figure revealed itself, my eyes widened a bit, "könig?"

"Don't talk too much, I know it probably hurts so it's okay. Just wanted to check in on you, I heard what happened." His eyes I could tell were trying to hold back tears, he thinks he's hiding it well but clearly isn't.

I noticed he was still in hospital clothing, IV's were still hooked onto his forearm, the machine being held by his side. The patch was still on from where they did surgery from the Gunshot wound, looked like a new dressing so recently changed.

"Here," he hands me a cup full of ice chips. "It will help soothe the throat." He spoke softly. I grabbed the cup and smiled faintly, "you didn't need to, but thank you."

"I am going to let you rest, you need it. Just wanted to check on you and thank you."

"König, please. We don't let anyone die in the field, regardless of anything. No need to thank me okay?"

He looked down and let out a small laugh, "ja.. Pass' auf dich auf (take care) Rose." He starts walking towards the door. Silence filled as the only noise was his rolling IV machine as he walked out.

Why did he come to see me? Where's Ghost?

I stared at the cup with ice chips inside. My only thoughts were wanting to see Simon. Every time I thought of him, my mind went to könig. He really came to see me and got these ice chips for me, was he trying to do something?

Pain started to arise again, I looked for the remote to call the nurse in. I pressed the button and waited. Not too long, a nurse came to my room.

"You called commander?"

"I think I need more pain meds. These are starting to wear off." I groaned slightly.

"Well you are due for a recovery check up anyway, I will get the pills and examine your dressing, see if it needs a change. I'll be right back doll." Her sweet southern accent was oddly comforting.

As the nurse went to get my meds, I continued eating my Ice chips. I just wanted to be back in my room at least.

Ghost's POV

(Previous day)

As I headed out my room after the night I had with Rose, my mind felt at ease. As I walked down the hall, memories from last night replay in my head. The feeling of her body, her scent, and her sweet talking. I admit, it was the most pleasure I have felt in a while.

As I continued down the hall, I reached Price's office. He was smoking a cigar as always sitting in his chair behind his desk,

"Morning sir," I greeted as I made a stop in front of the door. He blew his puff of smoke out, "Simon, just in time. We got something for today." My eyebrows raised.

As price explains the next mission I showed I understood and went to go get some breakfast in my system before heading out. I had a quick little egg sandwich and some coffee to have my energy raised. I felt such a light weight, it seemed like a normal typical day but I couldn't shake an odd feeling off.

I get to the prep room and start packing some stuff we needed for the mission. I grabbed Grenades, knives, ammo, you know the typical add ons. Once I got everything I headed towards where everyone was suiting up and saw Rose for a brief moment.

"Mactavish, you're with me. Gaz you are with Rose."

As I got closer to the chopper a shot echoed. Time slowed and my head quickly races to Rose. My body filled with fury and adrenaline, Rose was shot. I saw her body hit the ground slow and that's when time seemed to play normal again.

I quickly grab a weapon off my back and search around for our surroundings to then see guys on different rooftops above us.

Keep your promise. Don't let her down.

As soap drags her body to cover I start shooting with the help from Price and Gaz. Someone knew where we were headed, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was Esteban's henchmen. Penelope must have really pissed off these men.

As the perimeter became clear my mind went into a haze. My adrenaline wore off. My heart felt heavy as I felt a piece of me wasn't there.

"Simon a little help her mate!"

I heard soap yell and my mind snaps back, Rose. I ran up to soap as I see her lying unconscious. He tried to wrap a tourniquet on her to stop the bleeding but I could tell her breathing is hitched.

"Give me her." I say firmly. Soap looks at me like if he is dumbfounded.

"NOW!"

Soap then hands her body to me and I feel her full blown weight. My eyes frown. "This should have been me not you.." I spoke into her chest. I heard her heart so I at least knew she was still alive, but you could hear the slow beats.

This should have been me.
