"We should get going now...," Hayley said shortly as she packed the rest of Jackson's things into a small bag.
Elijah was standing just behind her, "The funeral isn't supposed to be for another few hours, Hayley. You can slow down..."
Hayley stopped and threw the bag down roughly, then looked at Elijah, full of anger and grief, "Is Klaus going to slow down? The sooner we get out of this apartment, have this funeral, and leave, the better."
"I already gave you my word, Hayley. Klaus will not be a problem." He added in a comforting tone, "You are safe."
"I am not safe as long as Klaus and everyone else in your family is here. I cannot be in the same state as them," Hayley stated in a raspy voice. She shook her head and added quickly, "I can't even be in the same country as them."
"None of them will lay a hand on you, not without going through me," Elijah responded firmly.
"Yeah?" Hayley tilted her head. "And how well did that go for Jackson exactly?" She tossed her phone out on the counter, open on her recent calls. Elijah looked at it in hesitance. The hybrid continued, "Apparently 'I' talked to you the day before you and Klaus showed up. Except... Jackson answered, and you somehow convinced him to tell you where we were." Hayley added in a snappy tone, "And then you told Klaus." She grabbed it than walked away. She knocked on Hope's door, "C'mon, Hope!"
The witch had overheard part of their conversation. It wasn't Elijah who told Klaus where they were... and it just made her feel more guilty. She came out of her room with her stuff and followed Hayley and Elijah out of the apartment.
"I give you my word, Hayley, I didn't tell anyone where you were except for Freya," Elijah followed her and said seriously.
"And how do you know she didn't tell Klaus? She told Marcel, Kol, and Davina. Why wouldn't she have told Klaus? Or why wouldn't any of them have told Klaus?" Hayley pointed out.
Elijah stayed quiet as he followed her. Her point was valid... but Freya knew Klaus wasn't in a place to be told where Hope was, on Hope's birthday. She wouldn't have told him. Neither would Marcel or Davina. Perhaps Kol would have, but even with his carelessness and wishes for Jackson and Hayley to be dead, he is honest. He was serious and truthful when he told Elijah Klaus wouldn't be in New York last week.
Once they were out of the city, at the lake where Jackson's funeral would be held, Elijah took an opportunity to finally talk to Hope. The past week, he had barely heard a word from her. She must be so shaken and not even know what to think... "Are you doing alright, Hope...?" Elijah asked once Hayley went into the cabin.
Hope had a dry answer, not wanting to make conversation, "As alright as I can be." She didn't even look at Elijah when she spoke.
Elijah let his curiosities overcome him. He wanted to know what Hope thought of Klaus. At least what she thought of him before last week. "What was Niklaus like?" He made sure to add, "In Mystic Falls?"
