Yoon pulled Hisa's bag open and took out the crumpled wanted poster inside, stuffing it in his own bag.
"Yoon, are you sure about this?" In the last half a minute, this was Hisa's third time asking.
"Sure enough. It's not like we have time." Yoon repeated the answer for the third time with increasingly obvious annoyance and sass.
That wasn't as reassuring as he wanted it to be. They had to stop the official before someone died, and quick. But Hisa was supposed to carry it out.
"You're as bad a liar as Ik-Su." He flatly refused when she asked to do it instead. Again.
Just because it was true did not make Hisa feel any better about this. "I'm not that bad."
"Maybe, but we can test it some other time." Yoon made a shooing motion with his hand, signaling her to get lost. "Just hide and watch my back."
With a sigh, Hisa did as he asked and positioned herself in a very nearby space between two buildings. In the case that Yoon's distraction failed, they had a backup plan: Hisa would knock the official out and the two of them would make a run for it.
...Maybe it wasn't the best backup, but they were short on time.
Yoon stood right outside the shop. He stretched his wrists a little bit, then took a big breath to yell loudly. "Criminal! Come back here with your 100,000 rin reward!"
Sure enough, the sound of footsteps came out of the building. An official with short hair tied up high on his head found Yoon and demanded what the ruckus was about.
"That wanted guy with slanted eyes! I just saw him." Yoon quickly flashed the wanted poster of Thunder.
"But he ran off that way just now!" He pointed to the exact opposite direction that Thunder actually went.
And so the official left to go check it out.
As soon as he was gone and probably wasn't coming back, Hisa walked out of the alley and went to Yoon's side. He was wiping sweat off his forehead, breathing a sigh of relief. "I can't believe that worked. So many things could've gone wrong. I'm still shaking!"
"That was amazing, Yoon." Hisa sincerely praised as a smile grew on her face.
He straightened and went back to his normal self, gladly taking the compliment.
"Well, I am a pretty boy genius! This was nothing. Even if you put me on the spot and didn't give me much time to work with." Yoon blushed a little before turning to the open door. "The whole place is a mess."
Hisa took a peek inside, and to her relief the boy who was supposed to die was still alive.
Alive and unhurt. She could feel the tension in her shoulders start to relax.
They made it before it was too late.
It could've been better. The store was wrecked and the shopkeeper was beaten up, but at least the worst was prevented. Maybe if she came sooner—
