"-you might need to think three times and-" Jacquelyn stopped. She heard Kylie. Her face must have been full of terror in the kid's dream.
Jacquelyn woke up on a hard, cold floor. She heard someone behind her.
"I wasn't here before." She said quietly.
Two hands reached down and grabbed her shoulders. They pulled her upright and pushed her against a wall.
"No you were not." Said Kylie. She made a sound resembling a growl. Jacquelyn looked around. She was in the basement, and the entire group from the Three Times Organization Meeting House Four was there- about five adults total. And her.
"You wanna tell us what you did, you slimy little worm?" Demanded Kylie. "You were definitely using magic."
"What, I'm not allowed to use magic to sleep when I can't sleep?"
"Lying to us is not a good option." Growled Kylie. Then she threw Jacquelyn so that she hit the cement floor hard and successfully knocked the wind out of her.
"You're lucky we're merciful, slimy little worm. Now come on guys, we have that kid to go collect. Let's just hope this little piece of trash didn't do anything to bad."
So they left Jacquelyn laying on the floor and hoping that kid had taken her warning. The Meeting House Four Residents weren't the nicest people in the world, but Jacquelyn knew they would seriously punish anyone else if they suspected they interfered with a kidnapping.
She had figured out a long time ago why they never seriously punished her: her magic.
Everybody in the Three Times Organization had magic, but none as powerful as her, and she was still growing. They wanted Jacquelyn to grow strong and work for them, which she had no plans of doing. She had tried to leave multiple times before, but even with her powerful magic, Ivan always found some simple way to stop her, like making a vine trip her, then making tape appear over her mouth so she couldn't use magic. Despite his cleverness, Jacquelyn probably could beat him if she got enough sleep and tried very hard. But if she was planning an escape attempt, sleep always evaded her the night before, and she never really put her full effort into leaving. When they had kidnapped her, they had taken all memory of her family away and stored it in a jar. The jar was hidden so well and guarded with so much magic Jacquelyn couldn't find it. She never fully wanted to leave without that jar.
About an hour later, Jacquelyn had gone upstairs. Suddenly the door slammed opened. Kylie ran through and before Jacquelyn could fully process that they were back started yelling to quickly to make out.
Ivan ran in.
"The kid wasn't there. The door had been smashed and the furniture was in disarray. The place was an empty mess."
Finally, a less short chapter! But still not long. Anyways, yet again I refer you to The Physics of Magic. Feel free to share opinions on this chapter. Do you think it was a mistake to temporarily switch to Jacquelyn's POV? (not really POV because it's in third person but you know what I mean)
