Chapter Eight

I was reading a magazine article in gray sweats and a white t-shirt, I was ecstatic when the nurse said it would be okay to wear normal clothes for a while, when my door swung open. I looked up in confusion, usually people knocked first. Riley smiled at me, breathing heavy. She was with Chris, Dan and Lilly.

 "Winter, let's go!" she ran over to me, grabbed my hand, and pulled me out of the room. Thank goodness I had some strength back, probably because I started eating again, because at the speed Riley was going, I would be flat on my bony butt by now. We were sprinting down the hall when I noticed there were four bodies charging at us. We skidded to a stop and we turned, sprinting the other way. We turned right down one hall, then left, and right again. When I looked back I noticed we had lost the four kids, Noah, Ace, Olivia, and Bailey. Noah still hadn't really warmed up to me since I started hanging out with the group. The only difference from the first meeting was instead of glaring at me he didn't look at me at all.

I slowed to a mild walking pace with the others, our breathing heavy. An excited giggle escaped my lips.

 "Someone...tell me...why...we are running...from them" I said between bursts of laughter. The others joined in. I wondered what someone would think if they walked by us, a bunch of laughing cancer patients.  Riley and the others had made my time here much more bearable. Having someone going through or already have gone through what you were going through maded things a lot better. They just went on with life, having as much fun while they could. It made me realize I needed to quit feeling sorry for myself. I'd live life to the fullest while I had it.

"We are playing cops and robbers" Dan squealed excitedly. 

"We are the robbers!" Lilly burst out, an evil grin spreading across her cute face. Chris shushed them. We all lined up along the wall as if to blend in with it. We started to sneak ahead to peak around the corner, me being in the back. 

Suddenly there were hands on my waist with a "Gotcha!" my hands were being grasped behind my back as if I were in handcuffs. I turned around laughing only to freeze. Noah had been the one to capture me. We stared into each other's eyes for a moment, but he looked away quickly. I looked back also, to see that our whole group had been captured. We all laughed hysterically, collapsing to the ground. 

Ace jumped up and yelled, "I want to play hide n' seek!" We all rolled our eyes at the over hyper kid but stood up in agreement. Everyone began to call out their partner's name. In the end Chris and Riley were partners, Bailey and Olivia in one group, and Ace, Lilly, and Dan all demanded they not be separated. That left me with Noah. An uneasy feeling settled in my stomach as I took in Noah's expression. He looked like he could spit fire he was so mad.
