Something was really, really wrong with Yuri.
Normally, you wouldn't even dare to think something like that. Despite her anxiety surrounding social interactions, Yuri used to be one of the kindest people you'd ever met. It was part of the reason you liked her so much. Of course she had flaws, she was human– but she was still one of the most caring people you knew. But now, she was changing, and not for the better. If this had been your first impression of her, you probably wouldn't have considered becoming friends in the first place.
It had started off simple enough; small, almost unnoticeable things. Poems slowly using more macabre and disturbing words, Yuri leaving the room more often during club meetings, and getting more possessive, in a way. But it wasn't much. All of them could be justified easily, and so that's what you did. Brushing it off seemed like the most logical thing at the time.
But then it began to escalate. The poems got more grotesque. Yuri's slight possessiveness turned into snapping at the others if they tried to interrupt or even talk with you. She grew more confrontational– a stark contrast to how she acted a mere week ago.
You were offput, for lack of a better term. But hey, as uncomfortable as it could get sometimes, you tried to keep yourself optimistic. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Maybe she was too consumed in another project to pay much attention to what she was saying. Maybe... maybe she... she just..... oh, god, you didn't know. As the days passed, you failed to come up with enough excuses to justify what had been happening.
It– it was okay. It was fine. Yuri was okay.
Right?
Then everything went to shit.
Everything had been fine that day until Natsuki and Yuri began to argue about... hell, you didn't even know what. You'd been jolted out of your book by the sound of shouting. It was something you'd come to expect, considering Yuri's recent behavior, but this? This was further than it had ever gone.
You had no idea what had kicked off this particular conflict. Monika was already trying to step in and mediate while MC watched in confused, uncomfortable silence. You'd hastily gone over to the group, trying to help the club president break up the fight, but your combined efforts weren't enough. If anything, it only aggravated the girls even more.
But then it all came to a head.
"Here's a suggestion," Yuri exclaimed shakily, her wide smile void of any kind of amusement as her eyes bored into Monika's. "Have you ever considered killing yourself??"
And for a second, the whole club was silent.
All you could do was watch, paralyzed, as the scene unfolded in front of you. MC seemed just as shellshocked as you were, his tense posture giving away his stress and discomfort. Neither of you knew how to step into the fight in a way that would help.
Monika's gaze was surprisingly calm, all things considered. "Yuri, please. At the very least, try to keep things civil in front of yo–"
"What the fuck is wrong with you??!?" Natsuki yelled, cutting off the club president's plea. "I– I don't know what's happening, Yuri, but– you're not yourself!! Something is seriously wrong with you, and you need help!! I can't even count how many times you've acted completely unhinged the last couple of days!!!"
Yuri seemed taken aback by the shorter girl's outburst. "...What?"
"You heard me," Natsuki said shakily, tears welling up in her eyes. "Whatever the hell is going on, you need help. This isn't you, Yuri, and I– I'm sick of pretending that nothing's wrong, because you've been going off the fucking rails and–"
