It was always hard for Yuri to focus when you were right next to her.

This could easily be blamed on your proximity. Of course, in order to actually read the words that were often quite small, you essentially had to be shoulder-to-shoulder with her if you were to read a book together.

Most times, Yuri was able to distract herself by focusing on the book. That way, she kept her composure. When it was finished and you were further away, it was easier for her to focus, stay calm.

Not to say you weren't still distracting, because you were!! It was just a bit less looming.

Yuri had almost grown accustomed to having you there, reading with her. If you were ever with someone else, out sick, or just couldn't make it to the club for whatever reason, reading always felt different. The lack of your presence left an empty space that she couldn't ignore.

Maybe it was hard to focus when you were there, but occasionally, it was even harder when you weren't.

Clearly, you were your own person, and had full capability (and rights) to spend time with the rest of the club, whether it was to share poems, discuss, or read with them instead. Yuri didn't like to consider herself a jealous person, much less over something as minor as platonic interactions regarding a person she wasn't even dating, but sometimes she'd feel a stab of envy if you spend the day reading manga with Natsuki or discussing some goofy romance Sayori had scavenged from the library to make fun of.

Sometimes she'd worry about the books you would read together. Most of the time, it was her selection, and even though you'd occasionally provide the novel, a majority of the books were hers and she'd find herself anxious that you wouldn't enjoy them.

It was a hard balance to find: her tastes and yours. Yuri was well aware of her reputation as being the most "sophisticated" member, and despite herself, she'd sometimes worry if her books seemed too immature, for lack of a better word. Of course, she had no clue whether or not you noticed or cared about how mature the books were; you'd just sit and read, maybe react out loud sometimes, but never judge them harshly.

And every so often, Yuri would feel bad when she realized she couldn't name your favorite genre. If asked, you could definitely name some of hers– most likely horror or fantasy, clearly, making up the vast majority of her past, present and future reads. If you were the one to supply a book, it would (more often than not) fall into one of those subcategories, and she didn't know if they were actually part of a genre you enjoyed or if you were simply trying to pander to her preference in reading.

Maybe that was part of why you were so distracting. You're always sweet, even with such little things. It's something Yuri always notices and appreciates immensely, even if she doesn't have the means to express it in anything but small smiles and the occasional line in a poem.

Perhaps it was silly of her to think in such a way. Immature, even, to get flustered by something as simple as proximity. But she couldn't help it.

You were just distracting like that.
