Janner, now twenty one years old, was very nervous. He had the ring in his pocket and he was ready. He was going to ask Sara Cobbler to marry him. What if she says no? What if she laughs at me? What if she doesn't love me? All these questions swarmed his head and it was making him a nervous wreck. He figured that he could ask his uncle if he had any advice. Janner was so nervous about everything that he wasn't looking where he was going. Just as he got up the stairs, he ran right into Sara who was coming down. She dropped the many books she was carrying and the ring had fallen out of Janner's pocket without his knowing! "Oh Janner! I haven't seen you all morning. Where have you been hiding?" She said cheerfully. Janner shoved his hand into his pocket and that's when he realized the ring was gone. "Umm. I haven't been hiding. Why would I hide from you? I- I've just been around and umm, yeah. Let me help you pick up these books." Janner stuttered. Sweat was streaming down his face. Sara lifted an eyebrow in confusion but she shrugged her shoulders and said, "Alright. Thanks." They got down on the floor to pick up books and Janner frantically searched for the ring. Then he saw it. Right by Sara's foot. "Sara! Stop!" Janner yelled. She jumped a little and said, "What? What's wrong?" "I umm don't think you should be helping me pick these up. After all I umm dropped them. Stand up. Get up off the floor. H- here let me help you up." Janner took her hand before she could object and as he was getting up he quickly grabbed the ring. He shoved it in his pocket and he picked up the rest of the books. "Here you go. Well I better run! See you later!" He said as he turned and hurried away. "Okay. Umm bye?" Sara was left standing there in confusion. "I will never understand." She said shaking her head as she made her way down the stairs. Janner, now safe down the hall sighed in relief. "That was close." He said to himself. "It certainly was." Janner spun around and saw Nia with her arms folded. "Anything you want to tell me?" She asked. Janner stood there in shock. Nia motioned for him to follow her and he did. They went to her room and she shut the door behind them. Janner sat on the bed and said, "How much of that did you see?" "Oh I saw all of it." She replied. Janner thought she was mad. "I thought you liked Sara." He said. That's when Nia walked up to him and stood there staring. Then she surprised Janner. She wrapped her arms around him and cried, "You are proposing! Oh Janner! My baby boy is all grown!" "I thought you were mad." Janner said. Nia laughed and replied, "How could I be? I'm so happy for you both! Oh Janner if only your father were here! He'd love to see this!" Janner smiled. "Thank you Momma. I love you so much." Janner said. Nia touched his face and smiled. "Now then," Nia began as she wiped her eyes, "You better not lose that ring! When are you going to ask her?" "Tonight. Me and Sara are going to the library after lunch and then we will visit the market and walk on the beach to look at the sunset. Then I'll ask her." Janner replied. "I hope she says yes." "Of course she will! You two have loved each other since you were thirteen!" Janner smiled. "Any advice? I was going to ask Uncle Artham but we are already here so.." "Yes I believe I can give you some. Try not to be so nervous. Smile and act normal because if you act like you did a minute ago, then she'll definitely find out. Also, this is the most important piece of advice I can give you. Do not under any circumstances tell Kalmar." They both laughed and Janner said, "There's no chance I'll tell Kal. He will give the whole thing away." "Tell me what?" Janner and Nia jumped and saw Kalmar and Leeli standing at the door. Nia looked at Janner and he shrugged. "Close the door." Nia ordered and the two walked in. Nia took a deep breath and said, "Children, Janner is proposing to Sara tonight!" Leeli squealed and hugged Janner so tight that he felt like he would suffocate. When she let go, Kalmar laughed and slapped him on the back. "Yes! Yes! Yes! I love weddings!" Leeli sang! "I can't wait!" Kal said. "You guys can't say a word! It will ruin everything." Janner said. "Janner is right. Keep quiet and act like you would on any other day." Nia ordered. Leeli acted as if she were sealing her lips and they all looked at Kal. "Oh come on! When have I not been able to keep a secret?" He said. They all looked at him and said different times when Kal failed to keep a secret. "Alright, alright. Maybe I have done it once or twice but not this time! I promise!" "Thanks." Janner said. "I'm watching you mister." Nia said. "Alright well I'm starving. Why don't we go have lunch?" Kalmar said. "You're always hungry." Leeli giggled. "I'll go get Sara." She said as she walked out. They all went down to lunch to find that Sara and Leeli had already sat down. Janner took his usual spot next to Sara and he tried to look as normal as possible. Artham and Arundelle came last and they took their seats. They all kept normal conversations and Janner refused to make eye contact with Sara. "Uncle Artham? I have a question." Janner began. Artham looked at him and said, "Anything." "You think you could fill in for me today. You know, to supervise Kal?" Janner asked. "I can if Kal's okay with it." Artham replied. They looked at Kal, who was stuffing his face with spaghetti. Nia cleared her throat and he looked up. "Huh? Oh yeah! Umm yeah i'm okay with it." Artham nodded and asked, "Any special reason?" I should have told him before! Janner thought. " He's occupied this afternoon with his own tasks. It's very important." Nia said. Artham did not question and the meal went on as normal. After the meal Janner told Sara, "Come with me. We are going to the library." "I thought you were occupied." She said. "Yes I am. What did you think my being occupied meant? I'm gonna spend the day with you." He replied. Sara smiled and grabbed his hand. "Well then, what are we waiting for? Let's go." The two walked to the library and Janner stopped in front of the Library's statue that was a figure of an old man with spectacles and hardly any hair on his head. The plaque said, Welcome to the Oskar N. Reteep Library! Janner patted the shoulder of the statue of his dear old friend and went in. Sara and Janner split up to find their own selection of books. Janner was just wandering around when he realized he couldn't focus. So he went to the desk and tried to ask for help. "Good afternoon Mr. Wingfeather! Lovely day isn't it? What can I do for you?" The receptionist asked with a joyful smile. "Hi. Yes it is very nice out. I was wondering if there are any books on," he leaned in closer just in case Sara was within ear shot, "proposing?" "Yes we certainly do! Follow me!" She replied. He followed her up the stairs and to a small corner on the top floor of the library. "Here you go! Is that all?" She asked politely. "Yes thank you for you help." Janner answered. "That's out job here at the Great Library. Oh I mean, the Oskar N. Reteep Library. Sorry, still getting used to the name." Janner smiled and she walked off. Everyone was still getting used to the name. After all, Oskar had only died about a year ago. All the kingdom mourned over his death. Especially the Wingfeathers. He was a very good man. It was Kal's idea to change the name of the library and all the kingdom loved the idea. Even if it would take some getting used to. "Janner?" Sara's voice broke into his thoughts and made him jump. "Sara! How's it going?" He said as naturally as he could. "Fine. I saw you walking up here. What are you looking at?" She asked as she reached for a book. "No! Umm the books are boring here in this section. Let's go to another part of the library." He said as he hurried Sara out. Sara turned to look at him. "Are you alright? You have been acting a bit odd." She said. "I'm fine. I promise." He said and planted a kiss on her forehead for good measure. They stayed for a few more hours just reading and talking when Janner saw that it was getting darker out. "Hey, want to go catch the sunset at the beach?" He asked. "Sure!" Sara replied and they went to the beach. They walked for a while on the empty beach just talking. "You scared me Janner. When you died. I thought I lost you for good." Sara said. "You know, when you guys gave me that water, I could feel like I was coming back but I really couldn't. But when I heard Leeli's voice. I was able to find my way back. Like light in the dark." Janner replied. He looked at Sara. Her long hair was blowing in the wind and her dress was too. The sun was shining off her blue eyes and made them look even more stunning. Janner took a deep breath and said, "Sara. Can I ask you something?" She stopped walking and she looked concerned. "Of course." Janner stood in front of her and held her hands. "Sara, ever since I first saw you in the Fork! Factory! I knew I would never be the same. You saved me. If it weren't for you, the fangs would still be lurking the lands right now. I love you Sara. More than anything in the world. I want to ask the most important question I'll ever ask," he got down on one knee and said, "Sara Cobbler, will you marry me?" Sara stood there in shock. When she did not say anything, Janner's face dropped. "It's okay. I knew you wouldn't say yes." He said sadly. "ARE YOU KIDDING! Janner! Yes! Yes I will marry you!" She screamed as she hugged him. He stood up and looked into her eyes. Then they kissed. It was the most amazing feeling Janner has ever felt in his life. They hugged for a long time and they walked back to the castle hand in hand. Talking about their future. When they got back, Nia was waiting by the door. "Well?" She asked excitedly. "She said yes!" Janner said. Nia burst into tears and hugged her future daughter-in-law. Then she hugged Janner. "I am so happy for the two of you!" Then Leeli, hearing all the commotion came down the stairs and put two and two together. "You're getting married! Yes! Yes! Yes!" She screamed as she to, hugged them both. Sara grabbed her hands and said, "Leeli, I have no other family. You all are the only family I have had in years. I have to ask you something. Will you my maid of honor?" Leeli's eyes lit up and she beamed with excitement. "Of course I will! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She screamed as she hugged Sara again. Janner asked, "Will you also sing at the wedding? After all, you are the Song Maiden and you have the most beautiful singing voice in the whole kingdom." She smiled and said, "Of course I will! Thank you guys so much!" "No, thank you. Sister." Sara said. Leeli beamed. "I'll finally have a sister!" She sang. Then Kalmar ran in clumsily with an official following him saying, "Your Majesty please wait one minute! We need to discuss this matter!" "In a minute! Janner! What did she say?" Janner couldn't help but laugh and he said, "She said yes." Kalmar jumped up and down and he hugged Sara and he punched Janner playfully in the shoulder. "Yes! That's great!" He said. "You sure you couldn't find anyone better?" He teased as Janner stepped on his foot. Sara smiled. "He is all I ever wanted." She replied. Kal was going to say more when the official said, "Your Majesty?" "Alright, alright I'm coming." Kal said as he followed the oficial back down the hall. Then Artham and Arundelle came into the hallway and Arundelle said, "What's all the noise about? We can hear you at the other end of the castle." Sara told them the good news and Artham slapped Janner on the back and Arundelle hugged them both. "That's wonderful!" She said with joy. "Good for you two!" Artham said. That was the best day Janner had ever had.
