An Unwanted Guest

It was a normal morning. Everything was just as it normally was. Little did the Wingfeathers know, this day was anything but normal.

Janner was sitting with Kal discussing what they wanted to do with the abandoned Waternoose Mansion on the far end of the kingdom, when Sara burst into the room.

"Janner! Kalmar!" She screamed as she ran over to them. Janner and Kal stood up at once and Janner grabbed Sara by the shoulders. "Sara what's the matter?" He asked as he looked at his breathless wife.

"Something's wrong. Like really wrong! There's a man waiting in the entrance for you guys. He wants all the Wingfeather siblings. He wants the Jewels he says." She said.

Janner looked at Kal and Kal said, "Where's Momma and Leeli?" "Nia is in the kingdom with some of her friends and Leeli is still in her room. An official told me that the man were here and I ran to get you guys." Sara said quickly.

"Kalmar, get your sword ready and get Leeli." Janner said immediately. When Kal left Janner turned to Sara and said, "Sara, I want you to stay in our room and don't step one foot out of that door until I say so. I want you to lock the door do you hear me? Go around the back stairs."

"Janner I can't do that. We are in this together and I don't want to leave you." She said. Janner shook his head. "No. I don't know what these men want. I only know what I want you to do. Please listen to me." He said. He kissed her head and sent her away. She never made it to the room.

A few minutes later, the three siblings walked into the big room and Kalmar spoke first. "Who are you and what do you want?" He asked. Janner had his hand on the hilt of the sword his father gave him.

The man said nothing. He just stood there with his head covered with his cloak. "You will answer me when I speak to you!" Kalmar yelled in a loud voice. Janner was surprised.

The man started to laugh. "You can't be the king." He said after he stopped laughing. "You are to young." The three stood in confusion.

"No! You aren't the Throne Warden! This is to good!" He said with more laughter. Then he turned to Leeli. "I'm sorry but, is this girl really the Song Maiden! Haha! I can't believe a child is playing for the whole kingdom!" He boomed. Leeli didn't move a muscle. She just kept her gaze straight at the man. Eyes blazing with anger. "And what's this?" He asked pointing to her crutch. "I really hope you can play better than you can walk." He said with a sneer.

Janner had enough. He jumped out and put the swords blade inches from the man's face. "Talk like that to my sister again and that's the last thing you'll do!" Janner said with great anger.

The man didn't flinch but he didn't say anything back either. Then, Kalmar broke the silence. "Have you just come here to try to insult us or do you have something else in mind?" He asked. Janner slowly backed away.

"It's simple. Give me the Shining Isle. Let me rule and you three children and your family get out. For good." He said. A second of silence passed and then, it was Janner, Kal, and Leeli's turn to laugh.

"You think we are just going to hand our fathers kingdom to you?" Leeli asked. "It's not your fathers anymore. You kids are not going to be in power any longer. Just you wait and see." The man said.

"We defeated Gnag the Nameless at the ages of thirteen, eleven, and nine! I don't thing you'll be a problem." Kalmar said. "Guards! Take him to the dungeon!" He ordered.

All the guards in the room rushed at the man but he threw down this powder that made everyone choke. No one could move. They were all hunched over on the floor trying to breathe. Then they heard the man's voice again. "Anneria will be mine! If anyone stands in my way, I'll take away everyone you love! You will always remember the day that I, Charles Lingston, became King of The Shining Isle of Anneria!" His voice boomed like thunder and everyone covered their ears. Then, when the smoke cleared and he was gone.

Janner stood first and looked at Kal who was still on the ground. Then, they both rushed over to help Leeli up. "Are you guys okay?" She asked with fear. "Yes. We are fine." Kal said. "How about you?" Janner asked. Leeli nodded. "I'm alright." She said.

Suddenly, the heard a slight scream that was cut quickly. They thought it was nothing at first.

"Guards, I want you to go to the kingdom and tell the subjects to stay inside. Only go out if they have to. And someone find our mother! She was out today with friends. Find her and bring her home." Kalmar ordered. "Yes your majesty!" The head guard said as he and his men ran out of the castle.

The three siblings stood together. Kal was making more orders and Leeli and Janner were walking around trying to find any clues to what happened.

"Prince Janner!" They turned and saw an official running towards them. "Prince Janner! It's your wife!" He shouted. Janner's body tightened. "Is she alright? What happened?" Janner cried urgently. The official said something that shook Janner to the core. "Your majesty. She's no where to be found."
