"I have to get out of this room! I have to find Sara!" Janner said with rage. They had been locked in that room all night. "Patience Janner. They will find her." Nia said as she rubbed his back.
"Leeli? Can you do me a favor?" Janner asked. Leeli walked over to him and smiled and said, "Of course." "Can you sing?" He asked quietly. Leeli nodded and asked, "What do you want me to sing?" Janner thought for a minute and said, "My Love Has Gone Across the Sea." Leeli smiled sadly because that's the song she sang at Janner and Sara's wedding.
The song filled the empty room with a small bit of hope. Then, Janner saw the room grow fuzzy and images swarmed his head. Leeli and Kal felt them to so Leeli bagan to sing louder and with more defiance.
Janner saw a dark cave come into view and the image took him into it. It ran for a long moment before stopping on a woman. Her face was stained with tears but her eyes showed strength and hope. Janner knew it was Sara.
He was to excited to focus anymore. He jumped up and screamed, "It's Sara! Guys I saw-" He didn't finish his sentence because the room filled with the same smoke as it had when Charles Lingston had disappeared. Janner instantly knew what would happen.
He covered his face with his hands determined not to breathe it in. "Don't breathe it in! Uncle Artham hold on to Aunt Arundelle! Kal grab Leeli! Momma! Momma where are you?!" He screamed. He couldn't see and the smoke was making it in between his fingers.
Janner struggled to stay on his feet. He had to get to Nia. "Janner!" He heard his mother scream. "Momma reach out your hand!" He yelled as he tried to find her in the thick white smoke. Finally, he felt her hand and grabbed it. "I got you Momma!" He cried but he could feel her being tugged away. "Janner! I'm slipping!" Nia cried out. Then, Nia was jerked backwards and she pulled Janner with her. They got close enough to the point where they could see each other's faces.
Then, Janner saw a figure behind her. Janner couldn't see the figure's face but it jerked Nia again and their hands were pulled apart. Nia took one last look at her son before being pulled away. She smiled through her fear and then, she was gone.
Janner looked around the room in a daze. He saw everyone huddled together in pairs on the floor and then, his stomach lurched and he felt his knees buckle. Then, Janner collapsed on the floor and was overcome with darkness.
*Back to Sara*
"I have to get out of here. There's got to be some way out." Sara thought aloud. Then, she heard a noise. It sounded like footsteps coming towards her.
She stood up straighter and said, "Who's there?" "It's only me." Charles said. "Leave me alone! Get away from me!" Sara yelled into the darkness. Then, a candle was lit and Sara saw her kidnapper. He had someone with him. Nia.
"Nia! Are you alright?" Sara called. Nia didn't look afraid. She looked stronger than ever. "Sara! Thank the Maker you are alright!" Nia cried. Charles shoved Nia away and she fell at Sara's feet. Sara bent down quickly and helped Nia up. "Nia! Are you okay?" Sara asked as Nia stood up straight. "Yes! Yes my girl! I'm so glad you are alright! Janner has been worried sick!" Nia exclaimed as she embraced her daughter in law.
"Excellent." Charles said with a smile. "The Throne Warden is weakening." Then, he blew out the candle and they heard him say, "Next we shall weaken the High King!" Then, he was gone.
"Nia, is Janner really..." Sara could have even imagine it. She couldn't imagine the thought of Janner weakening. He was such a strong person. How could he weaken in a time like this? Nia took a deep breath and said, "He will find himself again. He just needs to remember who he is. They all do."
Meanwhile...
"Is he dead?"
"No Kalmar he's not dead."
"Are you sure? He looks pretty dead to me?"
"Kal you will shut it!"
"I'm just saying."
"Kalmar!"
"Shh! I think he's coming around."
"Janner can you hear me?"
Janner struggled to sit up. "What... happened?" He asked as he rubbed his head. "You fainted. Are you alright?" Artham asked. "Yeah I think so." Janner said as he looked around the room. He looked at Leeli who had tears on her cheeks.
"Leeli? Are you okay?" He asked. Leeli nodded and looked at the floor. "They took Momma." Kal said sadly. Janner sighed and said, "I know. I failed. I almost saved her. It's my fault. I failed her." Arundelle looked at her nephew with loving eyes. "No child. You didn't fail. You did all you could. Your mother knows that. I'm sure she's fine. Wherever she is." She said. Janner nodded his head. Artham was shocked. He couldn't believe he was hearing those words, the same ones he'd always heard in himself, coming from his own nephew.
Kalmar called for a guard to come in. "Yes you Majesty?" The man asked. "I want you to bring Thorn O'Sally and Galya Carter here to the castle. They need to be protected as well." Kal ordered. "Yes, Sire. Right a way." The guard said as he walked out.
Everyone looked at Kal and he said, "He said he would take those we love. I'm not taking any chances." Then Kal walked to the other end of the room and put his head in his hands. Janner smiled at his little brother but he couldn't make fun of him. Not now.
Artham went and talked to Kal saying things everyone else couldn't hear. Arundelle comforting Leeli as Janner stood and paced the large room.
A few hours later, Angus, the head guard, ran in. "Your majesty, Thorn O'Sally is here. Leeli perked up and Thorn walked in. "Thorn!" She cried as she ran to him. He wrapped her in a hug and he breathed a sigh of relief. "The whole kingdom is in hiding. They heard about what is happening and are hiding indoors." Thorn explained. "I'm glad." Kal said as he looked at the guard again. "I'm so glad you all are alright." Thorn said but he was staring at Leeli.
"What about Galya?" Kal asked. Angus looked at his feet. "We were attacked on the way here." He said not meeting Kal's eyes. Kal licked his lips nervously. Thorn continued, "We all tried to escape. They had us secured in case of an attack but Lingston is good. Real good. He attacked us and the guards protected us as best they could. We all thought we had made it out. We all did. When the smoke cleared, Galya was snatched right before our eyes and before we could do anything, she was gone."
Kal stood there in disbelief. He didn't say a word, he just sat back down and refused to look at anyone. "Your Majesty we are very-" Angus began but Kal cut him off. "Leave us." Was all he said. Angus bowed low and walked away.
The room was filled with sadness. Nia, Sara, and Galya were gone. No one knew where they were. Janner had seen a cave but where could they be? There were thousands of cave all over Anneria. Who knows if they even are in Anneria? What were they going to do?
Back at the cave...
"We have to get out of here." Sara said as she paced the cave. "Patience Sara. We need to be strong." Nia said. "What if we die in here? We have no food, no water, we have nothing! What are we going to do?" Sara yelled into the dark. "I can't even see my hand in front of my face it's so dark!" She cried as she slid to the floor.
She felt Nia's hand try and find hers and when it did, she took it. "Sara. Be strong. If you won't do it for yourself, do it for Janner. He loves you so much. He needs you. Don't give up." Nia said with determination. Then, they heard a noise. No lights turned on. They just heard a faint voice saying, "Hello?" Sara and Nia stood. "Who's there?" Sara called. "My name is Galya." The voice called. "I know King Kalmar." She continued. Immediately, Nia and Sara tried to find this girl. Finally the three women found one another in the dark.
Galya was shaking like a leaf in a wind storm. "I was being taken to the castle to be protected but I didn't make it." She explained. Her voice was shaking. "Calm down child. It's going to be alright." Nia said. "Lingston told me to say that he doesn't want us to die. He put this bag on my shoulders and it has food and water in it! I don't know what he wants to do with us. But I'm sure it's not to kill us." She explained. Nia and Sara helped Galya take the bag off and they all had a bit of water and some pieces of bread. "We must save the food and water." Nia said. "Who knows how long we'll be here."
