Being the Royal Family was tough. Janner and Kal were always at meetings and Leeli was always in the kingdom playing songs or singing so, they never had time together all three of them. As siblings. Every once in a while there was a day where they could do whatever. Just be the three siblings they used to be back in Glipwood. The Igiby children.
Today was one of those days and Sara instead Janner spend it with his siblings instead of her. The three walked through the kingdom without a care in the world.
"Remember when Kal put a thwap in Grandpa's underwear?" Leeli said with a laugh. "Oh yeah! He was so mad at you Kal!" Janner chuckled. Kal smiled proudly and said, "It took me a lot of planning but in the end, the mission was completed." The three erupted in laughter.
"Why don't we all go and get some food? I'm hungry." Leeli said. "I was just thinking the same thing." Kal said as he rubbed his stomach.
Just as they were going to enter a restaurant, Kal spotted Galya with two big buckets of water. "I will be right there." Kal said. "Save me a seat." Then he ran off.
"Galya! Hey Galya!" He called. She turned and looked at him. Kal felt sorry for her the minute he saw her face. Her messy hair was sticking to her face from all the sweat. She was breathing hard and her eyes had dark bags under them.
"Galya. Are you okay?" He asked. She struggled to put the buckets down and when she did, she dropped one and all the water spilled. "Ugh! No! Not now! Why?" She said as she put her hand on her head. She looked at Kal and said, "I'm so sorry." "Let me help you." Kal said. Galya looked at him in confusion. "What did you just say?" She asked. "Let me help you?" Kal replied. "No ever... offers to help me. You really don't have to, Your Majesty." She said with a slight bow.
"What did I say about calling me that? And besides, I'd love to help. My father used to be seen helping all the time. I really don't mind. Actually I have a better idea." He said. "Come with me. Leave the buckets come eat with my siblings and I." Galya was shocked. "I really shouldn't. I don't want to interrupt your day. Besides I'm a mess." She said.
"It's no bother. They'll love you. And I think you look just fine." Kal said. She smiled and reluctantly agreed. Kal opened the door for her and found his siblings at the corner of the room at their usual table.
"Hey Janner, Leeli. This is Galya. She is going to eat with us." Kal said. "Forgive my appearance you Highnesses. I was not expecting to be eating with the Jewels of Anniera." She said as she took a bow.
Leeli got up and put hand in her shoulder. "Please don't bow. I think you look very nice. Also, call me Leeli." She said with a smile. Janner stood and reached a hand out for her to shake. "Yes, call me Janner. It's nice to meet you. Here sit down." He said and they all sat down.
"Galya, if it's alright to ask. Are you alright. You seem very tired." Leeli asked. "Oh I am, Highness-Leeli. I've been working all day these past few weeks." She replied.
"I'm sorry." Janner said. Galya smiled. "No it's alright, I don't mind." She said. The waitress came and they all ordered their food.
They talked for a while before Kal said, "So tell us about yourself Galya." She thought for a minute and said, "Before I say anything, I want to thank you Janner." Janner looked up from his cheesy chowder and asked, "For what?"
"For saving us. If not for you, I'd still be the broken fang I was or I'd be..." her voice trailed off. "Anyway, thank you for sacrificing your life for mine and others." She finished. Janner smiled. "You are welcome." He said.
"Okay so something about me. Ummm. I work for Omar and Amelia Winslow. They are not the best people but they provide a roof over my head and food on the table so I'm okay with it." She said. "Aren't you a little to busy?" Leeli asked.
"Oh I like busy. If I'm not busy I'm not happy. But there is such a thing as to busy." She said with a fake smile."Well I hope you know that if you need anything, we can help." Kal said. "Thank you." Galya said. "Wait. What time is it?" She asked suddenly. Leeli glanced at the sun. "Almost sunset." She said.
"Oh no. Oh no! No! No! I'm so sorry but I have to go! Im not going to make it in time! I still have to refill the bucket! I'm so sorry again. Thanks for the meal but I have to go!" She cried as she ran out. Kal ran after her. "Galya I'll fill the bucket you go and start getting that one to the Winslows." He said. Galya looked at him but didn't protest.
Kal ran to the well in the center of the kingdom as fast as he could and filled it quickly. Then he ran to Galya. At first he didn't know where she went but he found her waiting in front of a house a little way down the street.
"Here I filled it." He said out of breath. "Thank you Kalmar! Thank you so much!" She cried in relief. Then she picked up the buckets and went inside. Before she shut the door she smiled at him.
Kal stood there for a minute with his jaw dropped. Hadn't he already seen her smile? Why did this time feel... different. Kal walked back and found Leeli and Janner waiting for him in front of the restaurant. "Did she make it on time?" Janner asked. Kal nodded unable to speak.
"I feel sorry for her. You think we could invite her to the palace sometime?" Leeli asked. " I think that a good idea. What do you think Kal?" Janner asked. Kal looked up and said, "Sounds perfect."
