Maybe It's Time

Chapter 5

 In the midst of his self-mocking laughter, a familiar ball of fluff appeared in Blade's line of site.

Finally, he stopped laughing to look up and find the source of the fluffy little thing.

It was Dan Heng's tail. Well, the end of it, anyway. The other man was standing just a single step away, his eyes fervently dodging Blade's.

At first, Blade was left a bit surprised about the other's presence. Leaving aside that he had come this close without even being noticed, he couldn't understand why he was up here in the first place.

His questioning gaze finally met Dan Heng's and the other quickly explained.

"It's really soft, so I thought touching it would help you calm down a bit. There is no other meaning behind it. None at all!" He reassured Blade.

It took Blade a few moments to realize that the other was talking about his tail.

Realizing this, he couldn't help but burst out laughing.

"Pfft! Hahahahaha!"

It was a pleasant laugh, not his pained self-mocking one from before, so Dan Heng was a bit relieved but insulted, nonetheless.

Instantly, the fluffy thing disappeared from Blade's sight, leaving him unable to do anything but follow it as it retreated to Dan Heng's other side.

"If you don't want it then just say so. There was really no need to laugh." The vidyadhara pouted.

"Hey, hey. Don't go deciding that on your own. I was only laughing because I was wondering whether or not this was just a cleverly disguised trap with how sensitive a vidyadhara's tail is."

"It's not that sensitive..." Dan Heng muttered, turning his head away as a blush ran up his neck.

"I've seen someone being based a few hundred meters away by a giant ray of water after daring to touch a vidyadhara's tail."

"Well, that's what he gets for inappropriately touching someone who already has a lover, because for your information, only then would you get such a big reaction! Randomly touching people... That person got what they deserved!"

Hearing the other's angry outburst, Blade stiffened.

A smiling face surfaced in his mind along with the picture of a fluffy tail always up in his face even though he was told he wasn't allowed to touch it.

At the time when Jing Yuan was blasted away for being a little too curious, Dan Feng and Yingxing still weren't together. Thinking about it now it was a bit weird how Dan Feng's tail always stayed as far as possible from the others while continuously invading Yingxing's personal space anytime Dan Feng wasn't concentrating. After having it pointed out, the other would then always apologize and pull the ill-mannered limb back, but after a while, it would always return.

"Say, if a vidyadhara was in love, would their tail, for example, show any kind of signs aside from heightened sensitivity?"

"Hmm... I can't say for sure, but I guess it would subconsciously seek closeness. Look at it like this: If you loved someone you would want to be close to them at all times. From my experience, a tail is like a limb with a mind of its own that acts out on my subconscious thoughts. While it still acts on my will, I'm not always in control of sudden instinctual actions." Dan Heng explained.

"Stupid bastard."

"Excuse me?"

Dan Heng was left completely speechless by the sudden unprovoked curse, wondering whether he should kick the other or not.
