A/n: "Author, I thought you said you were going to take a week break." Well I did. And I lied. I wanted to work on this so bad and couldn't help myself. The chapter is a little shorter than normal but hopefully you still enjoy. Now I go to sleep.
"What's the urgency, Kyouko?" I ask as I fumble with these frustrating web shooters. The transition from my organic webs to these mechanical monstrosities has been anything but smooth. Although, the range of utilities they offer is a silver lining.
"I need you here, Y/n. There's something you have to see, something vital," she implores.
Swinging seamlessly between the skyscrapers, I retort, "Can't you just spill it over the phone?"
I can almost see her rolling her eyes. "Honestly, Y/n. We're friends. Do I really need a pressing reason to have you over? Plus, this is something better seen firsthand."
Sighing, I navigate around a water tower, adjusting my trajectory towards Kyouko's place in Queens. "Alright, alright, I'm en route. Make sure the window's unlocked, alright? It's a long swing over." The journey to Queens was always eventful, but for Kyouko, it was worth it.
. . .
"So, what's the big emergency?" I ask, entering through her window, only to halt in surprise.
"Voila!" Kyouko exclaims, her hands doing a theatrical flourish as she hangs inverted from the ceiling. "Impressive, right?"
I pull off my mask, eyes widen as I look at her, "What the fuck, since when did you get. Wait. Were you... hanging up there the entire time, just waiting for my grand entrance?"
She chuckles sheepishly, "Well, not the entire time. Maybe a little. Okay, yes."
She then gracefully drops to the floor, the light catching something on her arm. "And look at this!" With a swift movement, two sharp spikes protrude from her forearms. With a playful smirk, she adds, "I've got a bit of that Wolverine vibe now."
I can't help but feel a tinge of envy. "Seriously? When I mutated, all I got were organic webs that I don't even have any more. No cool spikes." I grumble, inspecting her new feature closely. "You always have to one-up me, don't you?"
"Wait, hold on. You don't have your organic webs anymore?" Kyouko questions, genuine confusion written across her face.
I raise my wrist to show off the web shooters. "See? Pete uses these. Before our run-in with Otto, I had my own natural supply. And trust me, transitioning hasn't been smooth. I literally face-planted into a billboard."
Kyouko giggles, trying to stifle her laughter with a hand. "You? New York's famous web-slinger, smacking into a billboard? I'd have paid good money to see that."
I groan, playfully shooting a web in her direction, which hits her square in the chest. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. It's not easy transitioning from an organic web to these. There's a learning curve."
Her eyes light up with newfound excitement. "So, with my shiny new spider powers, does this mean I'm officially joining the superhero club?"
"I'm not so sure," I caution her. "Being out there... it's no walk in the park. And honestly, I'd hate to see anything happen to you."
Kyouko brushes off the residual webbing from her top, her eyes meeting mine with a mix of humor and earnestness. "You're not exactly subtle, you know? Behind all that sarcasm, you're just a big softie."
I roll my eyes, avoiding her gaze. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. You'd just be another liability out there."
She steps closer, her voice softening. "Maybe I would, or maybe I'd save your billboard-smacking ass more times than you'd care to admit."
