The last thing Libby expected to be bombarded with at 6 in the morning was desperate calls from Justin, but she supposed these days aren't tense enough as it is. But it only got to the point where Tyler was shaking her awake that she noticed the man had called her cell phone twenty times in the first place. She was still sleepy, and while her baby rubbing circles on her back was easing some of her pain, it was not enough to prepare her for what Justin was about to say.
"Clay's gone." Just two words were enough to make her shoot out of bed.
"Where is he?" Her voice desperate and scared.
He shook his head. "No idea. I was gonna call him before remembering the cops have his phone."
Oh right. That destroys her plan of tracking him down and giving him the long winded speech about how fucking stupid he is. Libby hopped out of bed before giving her boyfriend a quick kiss. "I'm gonna call Alex to pick you up, baby. I'm gonna look for Clay with Justin."
This made him nervous. "W-what about the assembly?"
She sighed. "I'll be there. I promise." She didn't know why he wanted her there but she was not gonna argue with him. She put the phone back to her ear. "We'll check the train stations first. Meet at my house. I'll be there in five." She hung up as she almost jumped through the window.
Tyler yelled out. "Do you think Clay will be there?"
Libby nodded. "If I have anything to say about it."
She ran straight to her house to find Justin waiting in his car with a tense expression. "I never thought he would do this."
She shook her head. "He's scared. So are we. But that doesn't mean we're gonna let him fuck up his life."
They had driven themselves to the closest train stations in desperation as they looked for their brother. Then a miracle finally came when they received a phone call from an unknown number. They both relaxed when they heard Ani's voice. "Libby! I know where Clay is."
Libby sighed in relief. "Where? And how do you know?"
She answered. "He was just with me. I gave him my phone for communication, but I think he needs you to talk to him. You know how to help better than I could."
She nodded. "Okay, I have your number so I can track that right to where he is." She was about to hang up when she begrudgingly said. "Thank you, Ani."
Ani smiled. "Of course."
She turned to Justin. "New plan." And looked up Ani's number to find Clay was actually nearby. Except instead of on a train, he wa following the tracks. The two nodded as they hopped into his car. They drove around the tracks for several minutes until he was spotted. "Justin, there he is!" Justin immediately slammed on the breaks as the two hopped out and ran towards their brother.
When Clay saw them, he cursed. "Shit!" He had just gotten off the phone with Tyler. Informing him that he wouldn't be at the assembly and hearing his voice become so sad. He just had to keep reminding himself that he was saving everyone. But then these two had to go and follow him.
Libby immediately attacked him. "What the fuck were you thinking?"
He shook his head. "I'm not gonna ruin anyone else's lives with my bad luck! I'm not going to let you risk joining me! This is the only way to survive!"
Justin almost cried out. "We can't lose you, Clay! It's the whole fucking point of why we are doing this! For you! And now you're just gonna pack up and leave?"
Clay started crying as well. "I just wanna stop making your lives worse."
He shook his head. "You could never make my life worse. You are the reason my life is good right now. That was all you."
